Default UF Urgent Care Visit, Rt 44.

4th of July.
Jammed my index finger.
Wanted it checked by a doctor to make sure it wasn't broken.
("Why visit the 4th of July?. It hurt.)
1 doctor onsite. Very nice.
1 radiologist viewing x-rays remotely covering 3 UF facilities.
Waited 3 hours to have my x-ray read.
No one could tell me when the 1 radiologist would get to my x-ray.

Grand Children visiting. Didn't want to spend the 4th of July in the ER with no
assurance I would receive a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Left in frustration.

Where do you go for treatment of non-life threatning injuries on a holiday in the Villages? People get hurt on holidays to. Why the poor coverage?

You go to urgent care centers for non-life-threatening injuries.

Couldn't the doctor check the X-ray?
Any time I have seen my X-rays it's pretty obvious if something is broken.

Oddly enough, some health care workers like to spend time with their grandkids also.

For most, a jammed finger doesn't call for Urgent care.

If it's non-life-threatening, the best thing to do is CALL the urgent care center and let them know you have a non-life-threatening but "urgent" medical need, and want to know what the wait time is for a finger injury that isn't bleeding. They'll probably tell you "anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours" and you can decide at that point, before you even leave your house, if you want to risk waiting 3 hours for care.

Since you were able to get home without diagnosis or treatment, it was probably slightly less urgent than you thought it was. If frustration of waiting is greater than pain of injury - then stay home. Wrap it tightly with a bandage or splint it with a tongue depressor if you have one, and wait til after the holiday to go to the doctor's office (or another urgent care center).

Paramount urgent care lady lake. Open 365 days

Servicing the central Florida area, our centers have on-site labs, medicines, x-rays, EKG & more. Walk-ins welcome – no appointment needed. Tourists rest easy, we accept travel insurances, as well as most other insurances. Urgent Care centers are a great alternative to the hospital emergency room, as the cost is less, and service faster. We treat most minor, non-life threatening conditions and all illnesses cared for by a family doctor.

If you were aware this was a non life threatening issue, then why did you go to the ER? An urgent care center would have done the job as well.

Exactly. And even if it was broken, so? The pain wouldnt go away because you now know for a fact. ERs take people according to priority. I wojld imagine you would be at the back of the line if others were there

Leesburg hospital has an excellent urgent care facility right next door to them. That being said I hope all you villages stay in your bubble so everyone else can get good care. If you don't think you're going to die from something don't go to an emergency room

More mismanagement by UF The Villages Hospital! Would never go there and trust their care. It is like going to the ER at TV hospital. The OP is correct Ocala Health on 466A is hands down the place to go for urgent care! They also have another facility on 441 near Camping World. Great care!
