Default Under 65 Medicare supplement

Is there anyone out there under 65 and on Medicare due to disability who has a Medicare supplement policy? Does anyone know anything about the "Alonzo Mourning Access to Care Act"?

I'm moving to TV on 11/1. I have a supplement with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois now. In 2008, Illinois passed a law that any insururer selling in Illinois was required to also offer policies to anyone under 65 on Medicare due to disability. Prior to then, no insurers would write those policies. The Mourning Act seems to do the same thing but I'm having trouble finding a policy that is affordable.

Anyone have any good experience with this or good information?

i'm under 65 and on medicare due to disability. i used the villages insurance agents to assist me in obtainng a supplemental plan from united commercial travelers. i think there are one or two other plans available in florida.
for those of us under 65.i think they can be found by searching the medicare gov site. if not, contsact the shine representative in the villages for a listing.

I use Bankers Fidelity Life Ins Co. The rate now is 250.00 monthly. When I turn 65 the cost will drop over 150.00.

Thanks for the info. I was paying $198/month in Illinois. I could live with $250. But I'll contact the Villages insurance agency and see what they have to offer.

My mother was on Medicare and Illinois Blue Cross Blue Shield in Illinois. When she moved here to Florida, I called her Illinois BC. They said she could keep it in FLorida. She did and it worked out fine for her.

Smile Important update!!!

The "Alonzo Mourning Access to Care Act" (Florida HB 675) went into effect on October 1, 2009. Mourning, a former Miami Heat player, was a kidney transplant recipient and became a kidney patient advocate with obvious star power.

The act provides that anyone eligible for and enrolled in Medicare part A & B due to end stage renal disease OR DISABILITY prior to October 1, 2009 will have a six-month period starting October1 to obtain a GUARANTEED ISSUE Medicare Supplement policy.

ALL COMPANIES THAT SELL MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT POLICIES IN FLORIDA WILL BE REQUIRED TO OFFER POLICIES TO THOSE UNDER AGE 65.

Now please note that in Illinois the same type of law is in effect. You will probably be rated the same as someone in their 90s with a corresponding high premium and all supplements will not be available. But the good news is that access to every company that writes supplemental insurance is now available.
