The Villages to have a new Hospital.
BREAKING NEWS: The Villages is expanding its health care footprint with plans to develop a new acute-care general hospital in the next few years, a collaboration with the University of Florida. The hospital will be the third in UF Health’s medical network, which also includes the nationally ranked UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville and UF Health Jacksonville. Read more in Saturday’s Daily Sun.

Great news. I do not want to be a Debbie Downer, but staffing both medical and nursing should be interesting.

"Shands/UF of Florida in Gainesville, which is partnering with Central Florida Health on the new Emergency Dept. on CR44has an overall ** (2 star) Medicare Hospital Rating" (according to current POA)
2 star Medicare rating of Shands is nothing to be excited about, only 1 star above our own Villages Hospital and equal to Leesburg Regional with a 2 star. You come to your own conclusion..... Bet the Daily Sun newspaper put this in a different light, all roses and top notch thrills. However, national unbiased testing scores need prime consideration. |

It would be nice (maybe great) if the new hospital and this association forces VHS to accept medicare again, for various reason, we could not stay in VHS when they dropped medicare. Crossing my fingers.

Yippee about the hospital! Well the star ratings could improve and hopefully will, but still the emergency wait times should get better. I hope they will accept Medicare too.
(And without Debbie Downers we’d have a lot less done.) Last edited by Velvet; 12-07-2019 at 11:37 AM. Reason: ! |

Agree with VT. And, they should also accept the retired Federal employees health benefit insurance plans. I haven't found any other provider in the area who doesn't accept my FEHB Blue Cross, even though I don't have Medicare Part B.

It's going to take nearly 5 years according to the article so they can start sending individuals to nursing school right now with guaranteed jobs when they graduate. Someone tell them.

I hope this 5 years is not filled with whining about all the things that could go wrong...we shall see.

You are right...should be interesting. The one we have is already understaffed from what some say. How will adding another hospital make either one any better from that standpoint?

VRH is Villages Regional Hospital up near 441 run by a hospital corporation not owned by The Villages. They take all valid insurance and Medicare. VHS is all of the Villages Health facilities like Creekside...owned by The Villages. They take two insurances that I know of; United Health Care and Florida Blue. I hope I am right on this.
