From your perspective, perhaps. But there are many, many new residents who do not know the hospital’s history.

I was under the impression the rating had recently improved. But I was wrong apparently.

I didn't realize it was even a thing to look up, when we were looking for a home in the Villages. I saw that there were hospitals and cancer centers and doctors and specialists and surgery centers and all these other medical marvels, and just assumed that I'd be in good hands if I needed medical services of any kind.

Figure, between all the good ones and the bad ones, are the ones that are "perfectly adequate." It is, however, very disappointing and somewhat concerning, that the closest emergency room to our new home will be the one with the 1-star rating.

When it's a matter of life and death, 2 minutes difference with an ambulance can mean death. But 2 minutes quicker could also mean death at the hands of an incompetent doctor or short-staffed nurse rotation.

I stay away from The Villages or Leesburg hospitals but I dont really know what these CMS numbers mean?
What makes Shands a 2 and South Lake Hospital a 4?
I dont care about the hospital food or staff courtesy - I'm more concerned about the quality of doctors, nurses, medical equipment and how fast can they correctly diagnose you and make you well.

Good post....taking a step back and understanding what the numbers mean is important. The Hospitals close by are medicare hospitals and their ratings will be less than those that aren't and how CMS measures might be an interesting discussion with them. My wife had a serious surgery and I had a hip replaced at TVRH and our experience with the quality of doctors, nurses, medical equipment and how fast they correctly diagnosed her issue and made her well. Is it the best, probably not, but I doubt that they will kill you if you go there.
