If you are concerned don't attend. Common sense. Why do you need authority to tell you to look out for yourself. If we close down the world who will collect garbage. Deliver goods from food to everything. Who will.pick up the money workers will lose if everything is closed. Will the bill collectors say it's ok we understand. Will the banks say we forgive your mortgage payments. Common sense if you are concerned do not go out see how long you can last. Do you have enough food etc. In the house for how long?

Ah, if only common sense was common. Just look at the driving in the roundabouts.

They already did.

By comparison, influenza — known as the common flu — has infected as many as 45 million Americans since October and killed as many as 46,000, according to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

While we are at it, why not let us compare the death rate from the Corona virus to the death rate from the hydrogen bomb. The virus looks soooo much safer....

What difference does it make what other illnesses etc are like? We are talking about the dangers of this virus, for which we have nothing to defend ourselves from.

In the past 24 hours ALL major sporting events have been cancelled as have theaters ,concert venues, schools, churches, amusement parks, schools, etc. With our Villages lifestyle many of us travel from our homes around the world. There is the possibility with a 14 incubation that right now there residents who have contracted the virus but do not know it. Add to that possibility of many out of state visitors now here or coming for spring break. Simply speaking I see a simple choice . Make you decision on restrictions but most importantly what is the worst case scenario for the choice you will make.

Disney is still open, movie theaters are still open, Broadway theaters are still open, restaurants are still open, and here, the squares and all the stores and restaurants are also open. Self quarantine is an option if you are concerned (assuming you can find toilet paper). Minor league baseball continues, NASCAR continues, Olympic trials continue so not sure "the rest of the sports world" is with the NBA and college basketball. That may change but asking government to take charge of my life is not anywhere near my wheelhouse.

Check your facts as things have changed overnight and continue to change almost minute by minute....

rstert13 03-13-2020 09:51 AM

Wrong. People who think they don't need government wind up needing it the most.

eschiavo 03-13-2020 09:54 AM

Bill Gates video in 2015 predicted what is happening today all over the world. The government didn’t listen. He hit the virus outbreak right on the head.. Made 5 years ago who would think his prediction would happen 5 years later. Mind blowing. The Villages leaders should watch it take precautions now before it’s too late.

Why isn’t The Villages taking more precautions to protect us from The coronavirus ??? With so many massive closings, Disney parks, colleges, schools, businesses, nursing homes, professional sports, etc to prevent this virus from spreading we should be concerned we are not preparing TV to be safe. They expect this virus to multiply rapidly over the next few weeks killing many. We don’t want to be another Italy. If it could close down a country it could close The Villages because of our age group and Massive size

It will only take ONE positive case to spread here like wildfire. IT WILL BE CATASTROPHIC FOR ALL OF US.
We can’t escape it with 140,000 plus residents. It’s just a matter of time. It will be here !!! Our age group may not survive it as they say over 70 many will die like what is happening in the nursing homes. Most patients in our age group. Daily More and more cases now showing up in Florida.

Why not close the squares and Rec centers week to week. Yes, many don’t want this but they will close everything when the virus arrives. Will be too late for all of us. Closed for a few weeks or closed for months and quarantined possibility for months. Which do you prefer. WE are not going to escape this virus. !!!!

FYI: Did you know cardboard boxes hold the virus for 24 hours. Wash your hands immediately after opening any package. Also anything steel is a magnet for the virus germs and the virus lives for days. Yes, I research this virus daily for hours. Why? I am very concerned and scared for all our residents and myself.

Please no negative replies as I took the time to write this to help protect all of us. Thank you

I certainly hope so, if it takes fear before we take appropriate action.

To The Villages decision makers, glad to see action taken finally. Better safe than sorry.

I do feel for those who are economically impacted by the closures. My workers will continue to be compensated.

judithamorrison 03-13-2020 11:55 AM

Disney is closed.

judithamorrison 03-13-2020 11:58 AM

So is Broadway closed.

Why even wash your hands?

Shaking hands with the virus threat?
It's a bit like being gay.
Not for most, but fine among consenting adults!:icon_wink:

Mdesert 03-13-2020 05:29 PM

Anyone know if the Brownwood market has been cancelled tomorrow?

eltingg 03-13-2020 08:19 PM

The Villages and government needs to protect it's citizens...that is the purpose of government since individuals do not have the knowledge or capacity to make fact based decisions. Your attitude that you will take of yourself is how this virus spreads so rapidly since you do not have the knowledge to make good decisions.

Suzieque 03-13-2020 09:03 PM

The governor of Wisconsin closed all schools today from March 18 - April 6th.

Suzieque 03-13-2020 09:16 PM

Hope you're happy, it happened today. No St Patrick's celebration or music at the squares. Saturday craft fairs canceled.

Social distancing is the key to stopping this killer virus. The president has declared a national state of emergency , this is what I’ve been advocating to the virus deniers

Now that's one of the most sensible posts you've made:bigbow:

Well said. Let's get ahead of this and avoid becoming quarantined. Be safe, and concerned about your neighbors.

kittygilchrist 03-15-2020 09:29 PM

We are up to 155 cases in Florida. Thank God people here have gotten the hint.

It is a matter of when a case shows up in the Villages and not if. Are they even testing for it yet here?

Drdoug49 03-15-2020 10:00 PM

Government exists to protect society. Yet the majority of TV people engage in self destructive behaviors like overeating, drinking alcohol, sedentary behavior with over reliance on TV golf carts that shorten their lives. Humans can be self destructive, we have to follow CDC guides before it’s too late

Pickbent 03-16-2020 11:03 AM

Village residents evidently got serious about the virus-absurd panic buying at food markets, drugstores, etc. at same time, they ignore the six ft. Personal distance guideline!
