Has anyone purchased dental insurance? Has it been beneficial and cost saving? Any recommendations?

We have AARP Delta Dental. Cleanings free 3 times a year. We've used it quite a bit for work. We pay about 1/2 for crowns etc.

We have GEHA to supplement our BCBS Standard. Works well.

I have GEHA. Only had it since January so only used it once so far for a root canal. Only paid $403 for a root canal, (does not include the replacement crown or permanent filling). I'm happy with that.

Many dentists in the surrounding area require payment up front but they will file a dental claim with your insurance company.
I looked at GEHA very closely and the problem is I use an out of network dentist for my primary care (cleanings fillings etc). For out of network for basic services (cleanings etc) GEHA's allowed rate was much lower than Aenta (also out of network) so I would end up paying $30-40 per cleaning X 2people with GEHA vs aetna. Geha has much better payments for class C services that includes Crowns, root canals and peridontal work. However this is offset some for GEHA has a $50 deductible/pn whereas Aetna does not. Do you have to be a retired federal employee to get GEHA?

Does anyone know a dentist that takes GEHA? I've tried several offices around the area and they are all out of network. I found one in Southern Trace, but they are not excepting new GEHA patients
