With the confusion and claims being made about Medicare... something that affects all of us here in The Villages, I want to put in a professional opinion about what's really at stake.

Click on this link to read an excellent article that tells us what we have and what we stand to lose.

I hope to hear from you, so we can begin a conversation about this.

My husband and I spent our working life as teachers, and are quite in tune with how schools work and how students learn. Disadvantaged students typically do not have the support of parents to stess the value of education, and quite frequently do not excell in school. Florida House Bill SB6 links teachers' pay to student performance. How will we persuade good teachers to work in low-performing schools where they are needed most when they risk not just losing pay but losing their teaching certificate if those at-risk kids don't make sufficient gains on the test?

Tell the Florida House: Stop SB 6
    Mar 25, 2010

The Senate has rammed through legislation that will have a huge and immediate impact on the quality of classroom instruction, especially for the most at-risk kids. Teaching-to-the-test will be far more rampant, and we'll lose our best teachers. Tell the House to stop this bad bill now.

When big banks & corporations are not held accountable, we are all impacted.

I just contacted my members of Congress to ask them to support an effort that will finally hold Wall Street accountable for the kinds of reckless decisions that helped cause the financial crisis.

We've seen what happens when we don't make the big banks and corporations play by the rules: millions in lost jobs, billions in taxpayer-funded bailouts and trillions in lost retirement savings.

But you know how politics in Washington works Congress won't take on these powerful forces unless we make them. Join me in calling on our members of Congress to stand up for those of us Americans playing by the rules and demand strong financial reform that protects consumers today!

Thanks for your help in getting across a strong message to Congress that what happened over the past few years must NEVER be allowed to happen again.
