Nov 22 1963 marked more than the death of JFK. The News wasn't considered "profitable" until than. That day changed everything. CBS immediately gave programing a day off and NBC quickly followed suit. Prior to the death of JFK the news was considered "a public service message". Radio had begun a transformation with "Rock n Roll". From Elvis through the Beatles. AM radio found "Travel time" profitable as never before. In 1968 the as result of the success of the movie M.A.S.H. and inJanuary of 1971 the instant success of "All in the Family" ushered in "shock radio" As NBC radio was quick to hire John "Donald Imus" in 1971 and "air time" would never be the same. NBC Radio's 50,000 clear watts station opened the NYC tri-state area to "shock radio". The influence Don Imus had on modern radio can be seen how "Sports Radio" would start it's first ever morning drive "Drive time" not with "Sports" but the 5 hour "Don Imus radio show".
