burky
We have only lived here a year but have only experienced one (5 minute?) failure in that time, and maybe three or four 1 second flickers. [:-)}
This is way better than I expected, after we heard that Florida was the lightening capital of the country. I believe the quality is due to the fact that all of our electrical services are buried, and that eliminates tree and wind damage as well as virtually eliminating direct lightening hits.
We had a whole home generator in Michigan and it ran 3-5 times a year, sometimes for a day or two. So far, I would say it was a waste of money here. If you really wanted to have protection then a small portable (camping?) generator could at least run your freezer (and if the outage is not multi-days long a full freezer will hold its temperature for about 48 hours (24 hours if half-full). You can always eat out and go to a rec center to shower.
