Storm Door Automatic Closer

I want to add an automatic door closer to our aluminum lanai glass door but there is no jamb to mount the bracket to. I thought I would add two 2x4s to the concrete pillar to make it flush with the door frame then attach the closer mounting bracket to the wood. Any other ideas? Thanks.
