Cruise Industry Restart Reaches Half of the Global Fleet

As restart operations accelerate around the world, just under 50 percent of the entire global cruise fleet is expected to be back in service by the end of August.

The data is from the August 2021 edition of the Cruise Ships in Service Report by Cruise Industry News.

The combined fleets of the nearly 90 active cruise lines currently account for approximately 410 cruise ships, according to the 2022 Global Cruise Ship Index by Cruise Industry News.

I love cruising but just am not willing to take the risk yet.

Just got off a Celebrity Alaska trip. They claim that they are following CDC Covid protocols. They are sailing at 60% capacity. Ship felt like it was empty. Cruise director described Skagway as a ghost town and I could not disagree with his assessment. Booking a land tour(non ship sponsored) was easy and empty.

They are still a long way from being back to normal. It was refreshing not having to use mask. Out of Seattle(as opposed to Florida) travelers were required to be vaccinated and pass a Covid test. Was worth it.

Yes, 50% of fleet at 60% of capacity is 30% overall. Still, it's a good start, and we are looking forward to our transatlantic in November.
