Many parts of Seattle seem not to be very safe

This is one of the most misleading postings I've seen in a long time. Please, check the link. It is to a website that, in part, reviews major cities and tells you what part of that city is high crime. It tells you what parts of Seattle you might want to avoid based on 2018 data. Nothing since. It concludes:

Conclusion
Generally, Seattle has a low crime rate, notwithstanding the significantly high rate of property crimes. Just like the other big cities, it is a safe city, which still has a few dangerous areas.

Just stay out of down town and avoid the homeless camps.

Yes, those ignorant business owners and citizens don't know what they are talking about. Defunding the police will result in lower crime.

Seattle police's response times reach over 60 minutes as staffing shortages continue

They are really tough on crime. They only let the autonomous zone thrive for three weeks.

I am sure the cruises are spectacular. Anyone I have ever met that tried it loved it. Just don't go sightseeing in Seattle.

I was sorta hoping the OP would include some actual experience and results of the covid protocols.

With 82 cruises completed there certainly would be an interesting amount of data available.

Instead we wind up with an ad hoc evaluation of the port.

Crime continues to rise and plague the area.

Has crime ridden is Seattle? You can compare crime rates of cities at this website. It claims to be using 2021 FBI rates but it really is using 2020 data released in 2021. This is the most recent reported national data available. The homicide rate in King's county thru the end of Sep 2021 is the same as it was in 2020. An article looking at crime in Seattle just published reports that violent and property crimes are lower in 2021 than they were in 2020. You can also look at the raw data reported by the police department for all recent years. HERE Image below shows 2019 - 2021. There is no crime surge in Seattle.

2021 Compare Crime Rates: Seattle, WA vs Ocala, FL and the rate of violent crime in Seattle is lower than Ocala Florida, property crime a bit higher.

Yes homelessness is a major problem in Seattle, as it is in the Ocala forest.

Are there areas of Seattle best avoided by the casual tourist. Of course. Are homeless camps a concern, yes. But the attacks on the OP for suggesting that she is sending cruisers into a dangerous location are completely unjustified. Do your own comparison to other cruise ports. Is Seattle more a concern that Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Baltimore, NYC, New Orleans, Los Angeles?? Could I find a news story for any city, or even the Villages on this website, asking for more police protection?

From your chart, violent crimes are on track to be over 5,000 in 2021.....that's a 15% increase from 2020.

This does not include crimes not reported or investigated since police can not do anything about certain crimes.

Do you actually believe that Miami or Fort Lauderdale are safer cities than Seattle? If you are comfortable using those ports for your cruising needs, then Seattle should also make you comfortable. Don't believe the images you are seeing. The source of those images may have a bias in their presentation. Real data is available.

I do believe that Miami and Ft Laud are safer than Seattle nowadays but even if that were not true, you can drive from here straight to either of those ports on the day of your cruise. If you sail out of Seattle you have to go at least a day earlier and spend the night in a hotel, go out to restaurants, etc. (If you fly in the same day and your flight is delayed or cancelled you could miss the cruise.) So if you sail out of a non-Florida port you will likely spend some amount of time in that port city. The safety (or perceived safety) of that port city is something that people take into consideration when planning a cruise.

An alternative for those who don't want to spend time in Seattle would be to fly into Anchorage and sail a one-way itinerary from Whittier to Vancouver. We did that on a Princess ship and it was great.

Nice try. Worked and lived there for over 20 years before retiring here. Still have family and friends there. Still visit them frequently.

If you're going to try and make a point, try to know the geography a little better. The statistics you refer to are for the Capital Hill area of Seattle, not the entire city. It is, however, the area where the autonomous zone was established.

You may be able to make a point about year over year crime but look at the 5 and 10 year trends. Some of the categories are up TRIPLE digits. There are NO reductions in any categories.

Again, Seattle suffers from poor liberal leadership. 8 of it's City Counsel members are liberals and the remaining 9th is a socialist. There is one potentially bright spot. The Republican running for City Attorney is being endorsed by two Democratic former governors. Her opponent is soft on crime and went on record celebrating those that set arson fires at a youth detention center. Unfortunately, the liberal will probably win.
