I remember seeing these in the flower garden up north, we called them 'bumble bees' ....when they flew they were like a huge transport cargo plane compared to the smaller bees that we called honeybees and yellow jackets

Nice photo.

I can't be sure, but that butt looks a little dark for honey bees. I think the head looks not bright enough yellow for a bumblebee. So, I think it might be a carpenter bee? But, I am no expert by any stretch.
