What model drone and camera do you have? I bought a SYMA X5C just like this with the controllers about two years ago for $69 online for everything you see. I started with a couple of small helicopters, but they were really hard to master, just indoor flying. Then I got the SYMA and it was much easier but was really nothing but a fancy toy. It had a camera and would fly about 10 minutes on a charge. There was no gyro to help stabilize the aircraft, so you had to be hands on the whole time but not near as difficult as the helicopter. I haven't touched in it in a quite awhile. The scary part to me about buying a expensive unit is if you lose it over a swamp area or lake, or stuck in the trees. I was at the archery range on the historic side shooting arrows not long ago and someone had a expensive drone overhead. I always wanted to video the high school baseball and football fields, I thought showing them in relation to the faster car traffic on 466 would be neat. |

I bought the DJI Phantom 3 Standard from amazon. It is very easy to fly using your cell phone with GPS & the DJI Go app. This is NOT a toy. They cost anywhere from $500- $1,000 depending on the model you want. Fly'in time is 20-25 min. It comes with a 4.2 HD camera mounted on a gimbal. Plus one battery & control box.
Go to amazon.com/drone........Happy Flying!!

You have a control box, so is the cell phone for FPV (first person video)?
I was looking at this unit a while back, looks like Amazon is currently out. It has it's own FPV screen built in and it sold for under $200. That's probably why they are sold out. Do you know anything about it? The reviews are kind of split, some very good, some not good at all. I guess you get what you pay for. I believe DJI has the best reputation in the business and you can't go wrong with that. No, the cell phone is for fly'in with the DJI Go app. When you fly the drone in GPS mode you can see right through the lens of the camera on the drone. U can take pic's or video. The camera has a USB port so U can down load to ur PC.

That's pretty neat. I was just over Best Buy, they had the $499 DJI and an $1199 in stock as well as a couple of other brands that were in the $800 to $1500 range.

Just got my Phantom 3 Standard from Newegg last week, they had a deal on refurbished units for $314 vs the normal $499, was too good to pass up. Today (only) they have a refurbished Phantom 3 Professional 4K model for $549, a great buy.
I've only taken a few flights so far, over Evans Prairie and Mangrove golf courses but I'm truly impressed the ease of flying and the picture quality of even the basic 2.7K camera on the 3S. At 400 ft the views of The Villages are amazing, but flying that high the 3S is but a spec in the sky and a little unnerving thinking how much money is hovering up there and waiting to fall or fly away on its own. The smart move is definitely to learn to fly on a less expensive unit and then move up after you mastered the basics. I started with a Cheer Wing CW4 my wife gave me for Christmas this year. A few rough landings and takeoffs and of course a couple of conversations with trees in the neighborhood taught me a lot of lessons on how to fly. All the lessons carry over to the move advanced drones. Tip - your telescopic ball retriever is great for getting a drone out of palm trees. |
