This is my favorite bird due to it's gorgeous coloring! I didn't know we got the painted bunting around here. I have 2 feeders and will definitely be looking for it.

Most of what is there, we, all of us, do not see. Birds at night? Many are bats. Flying rodents and they work nights eating tons of insects. In your attic? We would all try to kill them lock them out etc.

That's incorrect - that outrageously colored MALE bird is colored that way to attract a mate, which is crucial to the survival of the species. The bright blue color definitely doesn't camouflage it (ever seen a blue plant)? The female version of that bird has muted colors that blend with the environment. Female birds are less colorful and usually in shades of brown, nature intended it that way so they can safely hide while spending long periods of time on the nest. Look at the colors of a male vs female Mallard duck, and male vs. female colors of a Cardinal

Interesting that his ancestors were dinosaurs. I wonder if that were as pretty as they were deadly?

I have never seen one in the field

recall how thrilled my dad was when he saw one behind his vacation home in Vermont one summer
