And while the launch was successful, the mission failed as the required boost to reach the correct orbit to dock at the space station didn't happen. So Boeing is now trying to figure out what useful role this mission can achieve then bring it back to the West coast. Boeing did not have a good 2019. This vehicle is supposed to make the US once again able to get astronauts into space instead of using Putin's facilities.
While Boeing will get the software or hardware problem fixed, it was a major failure.

DOH!!!

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Boeing's Starliner spacecraft won't reach the International Space Station as planned after its liftoff from Cape Canaveral early Friday, the result of a timing issue that caused the capsule to prematurely burn fuel.

Instead, the uncrewed capsule will be directed to land in White Sands, New Mexico, by sometime Sunday, a significant cutback of the objectives laid out for the mission known as Orbital Flight Test.

Had it been successful, the test would have paved the way for astronauts to launch on Starliner sometime in the first half of 2020.

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said an investigation will be needed to determine whether or not Boeing will need to fly another uncrewed OFT mission.

(reminds me of the Hubble fiasco)>>>Shortly after the Hubble Space Telescope's launch in 1990, operators discovered that the observatory's primary mirror had an aberration that affected the clarity of the telescope's early images. ... Ultimately the problem was traced to miscalibrated equipment during the mirror's manufacture.

I remember seeing a launch that come right over Spanish Springs once. Since then it seems that everything goes east and out over the Atlantic. I assume that every launch is different but still wonder why that one went west. Any ideas?
