Beautiful! We will be moving to TV shortly and we’re discussing if roses do well there. You seem like the one to ask. Are they hard to maintain?

A rose by any other name. . .
Two Bills,
That looks like the Peace Rose -- which has quite a history. The Peace Rose was introduced in the United States in 1945 and given that name in honor of the time in history -- although it had been around before -- but under different names. The Peace is said by some to be the most famous and most popular rose of all time. Anyway, if it is the Peace, there is a lot of information about its history that can be found with a Google. Rosarians and just plain rose lovers like to write about it. I am not a rosarian and I don't have any roses anymore. I was never good at them and soon lost patience with thorns and bugs. My gardening style now is if I have plants that displease me, I turn into The Red Queen, grab my Felcos and shout, "Off with their heads!" Ruthless Boomer PS: If that is not a Peace Rose, or if you already knew about the history, please forgive me for going on and on with extraneous information about rose history. Although I am not a patient gardener, I am, most definitely, an infomaniac. Last edited by Boomer; 06-25-2021 at 02:33 PM. |

It has won us a prize in local flower show. Roses love our clay based soil and flourish. We have some goodies this year, as weather has been kind. Never knew history, so thank you for that. |

Or it could be Rosa “Alexander” because it has a deep yellow center with strong orange outer petals. But it maybe the way the photo is taken and the type of soil.
Very nice! Last edited by Velvet; 06-25-2021 at 04:04 PM. |

When you move here, the UF/IFAS Sumter County Master Gardeners can give you all the info on roses that you need. I have about 30 rose bushes in my yard and they grow well here, if you pick the correct ones for growing in this area.

Hard to maintain? There are what they call shrub roses. They are easier to grow but not glorious roses. Hybrid teas you will be, or should be spraying every two weeks-fungus and bugs. |

Roses
I'm by no means a 'Master Gardner'. But I've been gardening for maybe 20+ years and have learned a lot through trial and error and reading. Moving from Minnesota to Florida was a big learning experience. Now, roses: I purchased several varieties this year and it has been a very good year for them so far. I found that good pruning has made them better and fertilizing them also. I'm a fan of deadheading and so so weekly.
