20 something daughter - how meet others?

Through a serious of circumstances too long to list - but probably very familiar to some of you - my 24 year old daughter is now living with us. She is a very sweet, normal, single woman who doesn't drive or drink. She works as a hostess at a nearby restaurant. As you might expect, she's having problems meeting / making friends with similar young women. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how she can meet others?

I would say she is going to meet most of her friends at her work place. Second to that- family pools. I go to all the pools- but when I was a snowbird and visiting I found visiting the family pools that you would actually run into people who lived here fulltime with their parents.
I would invite her to water volleyball-but you have to be 30 to even get in the sports pool. Good luck to her--

Meeting people today for young is harder than it was for us I think. We did things with people from church or work. But if you don't like the people you work with or they don't have similar interests it is very hard. One of my nieces took a class at the local community college even though she had a degrees already, the other did charity work, so they would have something outside work to focus on and not be hanging around lamenting a wasted 4 years in college (their words not mine). They met new people that led to a new circle of friends and contacts and eventually even better jobs.

Don't know if that will help.

There are others such as myself who have this situation as well. I would say let's organize a get together for them. My son would be embarrassed if I did that.....I might try it anyway!

Shop for a church with young persons, especially one with a young singles ministry.

Sounds like we have similar situations, Pammy. A get-together has possibilities. :^)

Anybody know of one? One with many young members may be difficult.

Village View has an incredible young adult program led by Pastor Jack G.

Only place I see young girls like that are at the country clubs as waitresses. Some of them are very nice. Or some at the various restaurants in the Squares. Guess she will meet some through her job but perhaps just getting out and about, even maybe with you for dinner, she could connect with some young women. Yes, Village View church might be a good place, also.

All of the suggestions mentioned are well taken -- people with whom you work, doing charity work, through a church of her religious affiliation, a pre-arranged get-together, etc.

However, one of the most important things which no one has mentioned is that she MUST learn to drive. This is a terrible place to be without knowing how to drive. and it makes her almost totally dependent upon others.

I wish her well and hopefully -- things will work out for her.

Yes, driving is a must. You never know who she might crash into. ;)

Online dating is now a viable alternative for young people to meet.

I met and dated a meaningful, significant other online for a long time. Then I left her for my current wife...but still...

No, I'm serious, online dating is legit now. Best of luck to her, she sounds like a nice young lady. (You could help her pick online, a mother-daughter activity, and thus be in the loop and a virtual chaperone, in a sense)

The obvious would be to take a class or two at a community college outside "the bubble" but if she doesn't drive, that might be an issue......unless you could drop her off. Night courses?

p.s. VOLUNTEER AT THE VILLAGES HOSPITAL. Bringing the mail up to the patients, etc. Might meet a nice young doctor.

Missed the doesn't drive part. A person in todays world can not be independent and successful if they can't get around without mom and dad. I learned to drive a car in my 20's because I went to high school in Florida and had a scooter until after college if the cost or availability of a car is an issue a Vespa like scooter or even one with a little more get up and go is a good alternative or at least it worked for me.

Will be setting up a Facebook page in the next week or so for twenty something's in TV. This is the way they get to know each other. I'll let you know when ready to go.
