TOTV connectivity

I am now reconnected to TOTV but don't know why. I have
century link and have not been able to connect to TOTV for about two days. Not sure where the problem is but some how
it fixed itself. Strange

what operating system are you using? windows? chrome? ios? what browser?

coolgirl 04-23-2018 03:40 PM

Windows 10 and chrome

Do you have more then 1 computer in case something goes wrong?
Watch this and see if you are comfortable with making the change.

I have a chromebook and made the switch when I could not connect. It worked.

If you had a chromebook I would be more helpful.

If anyone has a tech support email address for CL would you share it with us. I think if they get enough complaints they will fix the problem sooner or at least provide an explanation. And I don't want to sit on the phone with them.

Somebody is not coming clean on this issue. Like others, I had no connection for a couple of days some weeks ago, then intermittent problems, and then no problems at all for a while. Then no connection at all a couple of days ago.

I called Century Link and the technical support rep said he was aware of the situation and stated it was NOT a Century Link problem; that the problem was with the Talk Of The Villages server.

I changed my computer network settings to force it to use the Google public server and the problem immediately went away. Now I am using Century Link with my laptop which is still set to select it's own server and the problem is gone.

Century Link says the problem is with TOTV. TOTV says the problem is with Century Link. Somebody is not coming clean.

You shouldn't have to change setting to make things work. What is the real problem?

This might work. Maybe if enough customers complain something may get fixed.

go to CenturyLink | Contact Us by Email for Residential
and tell them what is going on

"Every now and then I and others can't get to "Talk of the Villages." It's a DNS error. This is a new problem that started about a month ago. The only ISP that has this problem is Century Link and the only site we can't get to is "Talk of the Villages." Some made a system change disconnecting from the CL DNS server and connecting to the Google DNS server. That seems to resolve the issue. Not everyone is comfortable changing anything on their network since it worked flawlessly before for years, for everyone."

i wish i could write concisely

I think you have expressed yourself perfectly. We are obviously not from The Geek Squad. I don't want to reprogram my beautiful computer on the chance that it may work. Next time if there is one and I get kicked off I will try the connection without my home Wifi on my cell and if it connects I will change back to the Devil Company for our Internet Provider.

I am taking a total guess here but i really think it is CENTURYLINK'S problem and TOTV'S is an innocent victim as are we. Just a hunch. :ohdear:

I read some other posts looking for this thread. According to Villagetinkerererererer awile ago he said Comcast had the same problem 6 months ago and sorted it out.

I think even if you use Comcast you should send a complaint to CL. Just cut and paste what I wrote. Because if someone is waiting to hear from someone on TOTV who has CL, and it's broken then they are affected too. And maybe CL might see this as an opportunity for new customers. I can quit CL anytime I want. Comcast always seemed to make leaving expensive and frustrating.

If someone can give me the name of a contact at TOTV I have one of Century Links corporate SVP's who wants to have his network engineer talk to a TOTV person. Would be great if the they could have a direct conversation.

Assuming this all comes to pass, please let us all know what was determined to be the actual cause of the problem.
