Snakes

How do I get rid of snakes crawling around my yard at Mallory Square.

graciegirl 06-07-2010 08:35 AM

Ewwwww. I had a five foot long snake crawl through my yard here in Cincinnati last week. I don't like them. He went into a hole by the side of my house. Do you have holes in your yard?

Sweetie says they are people too. I say NO.

If it's a non-poisonous one, let them be if you can. Our house was just painted and when the painter was pushing back the bushes near the house, two were in his way. Both were "good" snakes, but eewwwww.....he just picked them up with his painting pole and moved them to the landscaping near the cart path behind my house.

Treat all snakes as if they are poisonous, whether they are or not. Just remember to keep your garage door closed or if you have a garage screen, make sure it's in place. Don't want the little crawlers in your house.

Guess my response wasn't much help, but snakes do play an important part in the ecosystem around here.
(Personally, I'd call Billy the Exterminator from A&E... ;) )

we had same problem.we used mothballs around the outside of the home, snakes avoid mothballs and it seem to work.

Spread a line of lime around your house it'll keep snakes away, we put lime around our pool , it works but some snakes are good and help keep the mice and bugs away.

Mothballs. I know people say to not kill a snake. Eeekks. I hate snakes. There is a product, which they say smells like mothballs, called Snake Away, that people swear by.

I say mothballs around the perimeter of your home and keep them replenished after rain and such. One caution though . Years ago, we had an incident with a litter of stray kittens under my sister's barn who got into the mothballs and played with them (tossing them around apparently) with their paws. Then, as kittens do, they licked their paws. The mothballs are toxic and the kittens died.

just got here Saturday night, and doing some watering and walking around my CYV. Found 2 places that look to me like snakes were curled up there for awhile, anyway - one right at the trunk of a palm tree. The mulch (dark nuggets) was disturbed in a circle pattern. Eeewww is right!

Also had a mouse 2 winters ago on a December visit- was cold when we were unloading the car and had both the garage door into the house and the front door open. Think Mickey took advantage. One mousetrap did the trick in about an hour or less.

Put mothballs or the flakes all around the perimiter of your yard or where you know they are. I learned this living in the woods in MI and it did seem to work. YUK...I HATE snakes!!! I even put them in our garage so they wouldn't come in there. Smelled bad, but.......................

I'd Say He hit the nail on the Head.

I think that Talk had the right idea. It just appeared a bit oxymoronish to have the Nice Administrator right above that picture. Giggle>

Two blind animals were conversing. They lamented the fact that they didn't even know what kind of animals they were, because they couldn't see their reflections in the pond.

Said one to the other: "I've got an idea. Feel me all over and describe me. Then I'll know."

Said the other: "You're soft and fuzzy, you have two long ears and a bushy tail."

"Yipeee! I'm a rabbit!" exclaimed the first one.

"Now do me," said the other.

"Well, you are long and slithery and you slide on the ground," said the rabbit.

"Oh no," said the other. "I'm a lawyer." :(
