Mosquito Attack Last Night

After pickleball last night we headed over to Edna's on the Green for dinner & drinks. Got there around 5:35 PM or so. Found a table near the band & dance area, nice comfy spot, ordered food at the trucks, drinks also. By the time I got back to the table with the food around 5:55 my guests were SWARMED with mosquitoes. At first I thought "they must be over-reacting", but I soon learned otherwise. The little monsters were actually landing on the meat part sticking out from my sandwich! I had 4-5 on each arm immediately, several on my neck, legs, etc. I've never seen such a mosquito feeding frenzy.... Needless to say we had to bail out. Had some in my car on the way home, too.

Anyone else experience similar, there? Ideas? Do they spray? Any prevention possible, aside from avoiding the area altogether?

Sumter County is responsible for mosquito spraying. Report your experience to them.

We have a patio on the side of our house and Sat. night the mosquitoes and gnats were out. We were bitten several times. Friday night we sat out with no problem. Weird!

I live in Marsh Bend. About 9:15pm I saw the spray trucks going around, could hear them and they were definitely spraying. I've been out last 2 nights and no issues. I think they missed Edna's from the sound of it.

I avoid that area around dusk. The few times I've been there I have been an evening feast for the mosquitos. And that goes for most of the new areas south of 44...all the water and marsh land with little mosquito control is a bad combination.

Never had malaria but I have had dengue fever from a mosquito bite. Not fun at all. Yes, the spraying has been going on this year. I try not to spend much time outside in the evening, because of the tiny blood suckers. That is what you must put up with when you live in a swamp state.

Doesn't matter much if you wear a mask when it comes to those tiny blood suckers.

What do you mean by this??

Good gosh people. This is the South, lived here all my life. We have mosquitos. They were here before us and they will be here afterward.

Let mandate the mosquito’s wear masks when they go out. That should help

Rwirish 11-03-2020 06:31 AM

Move north of 44, no mosquitos.

Mosquitoes

Hello, you have to report this each and every time...by each person to Sumter County 352-689-4400. Mosquitoes are definitely a problem in that area. That's one reason why we just passed on a beautiful new home for sale in that area. Good luck and spread the word.

Poor management period.

Exactly. I dont know why it surprises anyone.

Weather change and perhaps the mosquitoes were trying to stay warm. Why is it that mosquitoes seem to bother some people more than others? I have heard people say it has something to do with your blood type. Probably just a myth. They seem to like me but the wife not so much. Go figure.
