Lawn Lanterns

Some of my neighbors have replaced their lawn lanterns with some interesting alternatives. One is higher than most, just above window height. Another is an illuminated ball on a pedestal.

Anyone know where to get them? And does TV have to put their stamp of approval on them?

(I know I could “ask them,” but I rarely see my neighbors and I don’t want to knock on their door.)

Call ARC an ask them about lawn lanterns, I am guessing you are talking about replacing landscape lighting with these alternatives, I would definitely ask before changing.

I think it is okay to cover the light with a ball as a temporary holiday decoration. But, permanently raising the height of the lamppost would probably not be approved by ARC.

What does a lawn lantern look like?

My thoughts exactly. I’m assuming a post light.

Referred to differently in different parts of the country I guess. A lawn lantern is a giant fountain with a statue of one of several Villages luminaries on top. Or a light. I forget which.

So we are not talking about the post lamp. A water fountain in the front yard would have needed permission to go in. So if you are looking to put one in you should probably apply for permission.

Who knows WTF he’s talking about :) I’m beginning to suspect it was a joke.

The water fountain with a statue was definitely an attempted humorous reply to the question asking what a lawn lantern is. I didn't think the fountain/statue would be taken seriously.

The original question about a "lawn lantern" or whatever they may be called is a serious question. I'm referring to the light on a post/pedestal/pillar/pole on every Villager's front lawn. They're usually about 6'-7' tall. Everyone has one on their front lawn. I'm not sure what they're technically called, and I humbly apologize for that, but I wasn't expecting that my description would be hard to figure out.

It's the light on a pole in our yards --- I'm inquiring about variations from the common ones. Some of the "different" ones for instance can be quite high, like 9 or 10 feet tall. Others are more decorative like a ball on a pedestal. I'm talking about alternatives to the common ones you see on 90% of Villages lawns. I was wondering where people get them and if they need approval. :)

I'm quite sure those are illegal here. No one has ever replaced their post light with a taller one or one with a ball on top in the 15 years I've been here.

I would think for contenuity lamp.post are all the same height. The difference is the fixture on top of the pole. Usually compliments the lights next to garage door. If you are interested in your neigjbor's choice knock on the door. Inroduce yourself and ask.

Definitely give Community Standards a call and run it by them.

There are a bunch of them in the historic district, further adding to our "specialness."

Just noticed you are in the historic district. You can put what ever light you choose. Try local stores, any electrical firm, or look on Amazon
