Replacing our low grade countertops with quartz product in our CV.Has anyone lowered their raised bar area to same level as other countertops? Advantages/ disadvantages?

We’re replacing our CV (fairmont model) countertops. Has anyone lowered the raised bar area when remodeling?

We lowered ours in our patio villa. Replaced with quartz. It feels like you have much more room.

I like the look of one level. So I’m glad I did that when we built our house last year.
I do have a friend who prefers the two level because it hides the mess in the kitchen some. So think which look you want.

Our home was originally built with the island having one level. We feel it makes the space look bigger. It is also a more usable counter top being a larger surface.

There are stools and chairs that allow comfortable seating at a 36" high counter top.

We remodeled our entire kitchen a couple of years ago. We used quartz countertops and kept the raised bar. Our kitchen overlooks the dining room and living room. I decided to keep the raised bar to shield the main living areas from the "mess" that is created in the kitchen when preparing meals. I also much prefer the raised bar because I place items against the bar such as the salt and pepper grinders and the napkin holder for example.

When entertaining, I place the food and snacks along with the buffet set up on the upper counter and use the lower counter for a wine and bar set up. Keeping the items separate works out really well. I move the bar stools out of the way to another room to allow easy access to everything on the upper level of the countertop.

The new homes built in The Villages have one level kitchen countertops as that is the more "modern" look. The look of the single level countertop is beautiful but the functionality for me just does not work.

I just read the thread I linked in the above post. The thread was CLOSED after the discussion lasted only two days. I do not understand why a discussion about counter top height would be closed when there was nothing at all being said that jeopardized the discussion. Why do the mods do that?

You will lose a couple of electrical outlets. And the ability to store small appliances on the counter.

You will gain a larger usable counter space. And a larger looking kitchen.

A toss up in my opinion. I've had both.

To answer your question....the Mods do not proactively close old threads. There is some system software routine that runs automatically to close threads that have not had any reply activity in xx months (not sure of the timeframe). That thread hasn't had any activity in over a year.

Back to the current discussion....

That two tier countertop contains the only large food prep area in our CYV. The other two areas contain the sink, stove and refrigerator. We would lose two outlets and have prep items on display.

The tread from one year ago was an active thread and lasted only two days before it was closed. The point is the thread was not an old thread when it was closed. Just wondering why it was closed. Thanks.

Now back to the discussion about counter tops........

The island in my kitchen with the two tier countertop has four outlets. I must admit, I don't use all of them but at least I can keep something plugged in all the time and not have to worry about an electrical cord hanging over the side when something is plugged in. I'm just not a fan of the outlets on the side of the cabinet but that's just me.

Checked old threads...it looks like the software closes inactive threads after 4 months. The last activity was two days after initial posting...it just didn’t generate that much activity. It should have remained open for another 4 months until the software closed it. Those are two separate events.
