There is an ad in today's Village Sun from Audible Hearing Centers about a micro computer chip implant. Does anyone have any experience with this product, please comment.

Good morning, jerseyvillager. I don't have any information that would answer your question. I'm certain that you will get some helpful answers.

In the meantime, let me be the first to say that some of us have micro chips but are unsure of the origin. The last thing we remember is driving down a dark country road.......

Cute!

I don't think they are talking about anything radically new. In the last few years most new hearing aids have microchips. My new ones can do some amazing things. When i pick up the telephone, the hearing aids (I wear two) automatically become stereo, so even though I have the phone to one ear, I hear the conversation in both ears. My aids are also blue tooth so I can talk on my cell phone or watch tv and hear the amplified sound through my hearing aids. If you do discover that there is some new breakthrough technology, please post! I would love to learn about it.

I looked for and found the advertisement and that is what I got out of it too. Just what Brostholder said.

Who is the manufacturer?

I'd like to know who made yours. I think it's about time that I made the move. It seems to me like people have stopped talking to me because they figure I can't hear them anyway.

Hi Jerseyillager, my husband looked into the microchip "Implantable" hearing aid. First of all, it's not digital....it's analog. Secondly, it's called "Lyric" The price ranges anywhere from $2900 - $3200.00 per year for a subscription, (for both ears). They have to be changed, (by the doctor), approximately every 3 months....breaking it down, that would come out to about $800 quarterly. We've researched this extensively, and have read many pros and cons..Some love it, and some say the hearing aids don't help that much. Obviously, not all hearing aids are for everyone. We've been told you can shower and swiw with them....yet, others have said that they are not good in water. Some say they hear great with them, and some say that when they're hearing well with the aids, and a fan goes on, or someone else starts speaking nearby, they aids block out the original sound and only pick up the fan, etc. My suggestion: If you're not turned off by the price, take a chance and try it. It's free for 30 days. Also, Google "Lyric Hearing Aids", and read about it. good luck in your search. Trish

Would someone please recommend a dealership for hearing aids? I am new to TV, but have no idea of where to go.

I'm not able to comment on the ad, but my 86 year old uncle had the Veterans Aadministration install one in his head about a year ago and he is pleased (and you don't have to yell at him anymore!). He hated his standard hearing aids. I don't think he has to do all the expensive servicing the other poster mentioned. Unfortunately, that is all I know but will ask him more next time I see him.

Do not go to Audible - they are not that good of a company
I wasted alot of time with them and they fitted me with the wrong hearing
aides, so I went elsewhere and I'm much happier!!

I use the Lake County Hearing Clinic on Bichara and am very happy with my aids.

Make sure you see an audiologist, not a hearing aid dispenser. There is a huge difference.
An audiologist is a professional, usually with a doctorate degree (AuD) although some have a masters degree.
A hearing aid dispenser requires a high school diploma and must be 18 years old. There is some training required but certainly no a degree.
Getting the proper hearing aid and having it fitted correctly is crucial. Follow up adjustments are routinely required and must be done correctly.
A hearing aid dispenser's job is to sell hearing aids. I've known many, many people over the years who were improperly fitted and paid way too much for hearing aids which don't help. An improperly fitted hearing aid can even make hearing more difficult. These expensive hearing instruments often end up in drawer.

When shopping for hearing aids be sure to begin with a visit to a certified audiologist. They can correctly guide you to the best hearing aid for you as everyone's hearing loss and needs are different. I have begun my journey with Paige Holt at Lake ENT. She comes highly recommended on TOTV. She is very knowledgable, personable, and honest. She will not try to "upsell" you or use other marketing ploys. She is only after your best interests and having you obtain the best hearing possible.
