new quirk on totv today

used to be i could just click once on my back arrow to return to any main discussion page BUT today i have to click twice...one click takes me nowhere [physically] except that the back arrow reads http://googleleads.g.doubleclick.net.page

does anyone have any idea what the heck this is - besides just annoying?

Don't know, but it's happening to me too. Odd.

This link may explain the source of the problem. I have not noticed the problem on my IPad.

thanx for the referral - but it did not help me understand this situation...is this something that the admin is responsible for? the referred site did not recommend how to get rid of the annoyance - or did i miss that?

more info about doubleclick is available here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DoubleClick

and i don't think i like anything that i read there! unless i misread something - we are being tracked? hmmmmm.......

There were no Google ads displayed on TOTV today, so this is likely a result that as you are surfing the internet Google is trying to get you involved in a survey and that (DoubleClick) is the company that conducts the surveys. I've had it happen to me as I'm on the internet and the attached images are examples of what I've seen.

If anyone has any site related issues please feel free to email us at talkofthevillages@gmail.com.

Thanks

Yea

For the first time in Months

I have had no IE security or NAV warnings while surfing all over TOTV

Wonderful!

I'm thinking it's more than a mere annoyance - and that tracking is probably the answer. If I'm being tracked, I would expect the owners of this site to let me know so I can opt out if I prefer. But I guess in this "digital age" that's probably too much to ask.

i get no such images nor requests for surveys anywhere - just the annoying need to 'double click' to return to the discussion page. it has never happened in my more than ten years of web surfing that i can recall!

how do we get rid of this annoyance?

thanx

NO, we do not track at TOTV. Please see our post above, this is done when you are surfing the web through your browser ie: Internet Explorer. We do not track any device at TOTV. You should make sure you clear your cookies and cache after each internet session to better protect your privacy.

I bet you don't have this problem with another browser. I would suspect you are using IE and if you went to say FireFox you wouldn't experience this. This is not a TOTV site issue but your browser. We'd recommend running your anti virus and then clearing all your cookies and cache.

thank you - am using ie9 for my browser - can you tell me why this is the first time ever that the browser has done this? - and why it would not be doing it on other websites? thanx

I have not had the problem until late also. Same browser, but now need to double click to return.

TOTV Team 12-28-2011 05:15 PM

Run your anti virus, clear your cookies and cache, and try another browser besides IE. If you have or had a virus you may also need to reset your router.
