Your Favorite Televised Golf Tourney?
 

Just curious if some of my fellow golfers in TV share my enthusiasm for what I consider the best + most exciting tournament in golf.

Yes, to me nothing comes close to the Ryder Cup and variety of formats...coming in September; we missed it 2 years back while off on a cruise so this one's long overdue for me.

Any other comments on favorite golf tournaments?

Waste Management in Scottsdale is very entertaining with the golfers interactions with fans on 16.

1. The Master's
2. British Open
3. Ryder Cup
4. US Open
Masters because I love the consistency of the same difficult course and the tradition.
British open because of the links style and the bunkers.
Ryder Cup because it's us against almost everyone else and the format.
US Open because I really like to see the course win. Par is a great score most of the time.

:agree::agree: I agree....same order for the same reasons.

U.S. open because it is setup so the pro's have to hit it straight or be really penalized. Also, amateur's qualify too and I like that. Lastly, because it is moved around to different areas of the Country and gives more people a chance to see the tournament in person.

I attended the Ryder Cup in 1999 and I have to say that it is the most exciting golf competition of them all. Probably because of the us versus them dynamic. In most golf tournaments the viewer doesn't really have a horse in the race unless they know a player personally. The Ryder Cup is different. It's more like baseball or football where people are rooting for their team and against the other team.

But of the traditional golf tournaments I'd have to say that it's a tossup between the Masters and the US Open for me.

Ryder Cup is tops, it's exciting and I always look forward to it. The Masters is a close second, followed by the British Open ("The Open Championship"). The President's Cup is pretty good too, but not quite up to the level of competition of the Ryder Cup.

Team Golf
 

Yes pulling for a team (USA, Europe, Asia/Africa) is a big notch up in intensity from pulling for an individual player (usually) and watching the excitement, determination and focus of players as they compete to not let the team down or cheer/celebrate as their teammates make great shots is golf supreme!
Never will forget the Justin Leonard Ryder Cup finish in 99 at Brookline.

We also get fired up for all the majors and a few of the big ones - maybe as follows:

2. Masters
3a. US Open
3b. The Open Championship
4a. The PGA
4b. The Players - TPC Sawgrass
5. The President's Cup
6. WGC - Accenture Match Play, wish there were more match play events.

I always watch the Hartford Open, not because of the golfers, but because BabyGirl is a marshall at the tournament every year. I think I actually saw her once, but I'm not sure. The marshalls all dress alike, and these old eyes ain't what they used to be, but I know she's there, somewhere! Graysun, you didn't ask if we watched the golfers play... :icon_wink:

I would go Ryder Cup first followed by the U.S. Open. The problem with the Masters is they limit the TV coverage and don't even come on until 3pm eastern. I would rate British Open next because we get so much coverage and it's early in the monring. PGA would come next and one reason is the first two days are on TNT and not ESPN or Golf Channel.

I'd have to say The Masters. I have also followed Amen Corner live on masters.com. Check it out on line and watch it with headset on ~ pretty cool to watch ALL the groups go through.

The ole boy played Augusta thanks to Billy Joe Patton, a fellow club member at Mimosa Hills CC in Morganton, NC, who almost beat Ben Hogan and was a member at Augusta.

Also enjoy Solheim Cup along with Ryder Cup

If you like the Ryder Cup tonight also enjoy the Solheim Cup. Same format, scoring and team play, but for the women. Very exciting. One of my very favorite.

First place by a mile is The Masters (if you have DirecTV you have access to about 5 different channels all day long). I can't imagine a more beautiful golf setting. On my bucket list is to get tickets and just camp out on Amen Corner.

Last place among the majors is The Open. To me a big part of golf is the beautiful courses. To me, the ugliest courses in the world are the links courses in Britain. Throw in the winds, clouds and rain and it becomes just a depressing tournament ... challenging to be sure, but depressing.

That may have been true years ago, but the Masters has been showing the entire golf course for many years now. Do you remember Louis Oosthuizen making double eagle on #2 this year?
