Media Enciting Riots ?
 

I am watching the news this morning and every news channel from CNN to local has cameras on these protesters after the GZ verdict. CNN even went so far as to put reporters and cameras in major US cities to film protests and riots. It's almost like they were hoping some WOULD break out so they could get it on camera. It seems to me that if any upheaval is going to come from all this, it's going to be the fault of the media for giving all these protesters the facetime they want, thus creating more problems. Even Mark O Mara in his after verdict interview said he blamed the media for how badly his client has been treated the past 16 months. (for example: posting baby pictures of the victim instead of recent photos showing him as a very grown teenager).

What do you guys think? Is the media inticing these protests?

I don't know that the media is completely responsible for them, but they are certainly exacerbating the situation. A decision has been made to not show people running on to fields during professional sports events because it will encourage others to do the same. Do they not believe that showing this disgraceful behavior will encourage more of it?

Yes, of course. It fulfills a political purpose. Like criminal prosecution should be driven by politicians running for office every minute of every day they're either in office or out of office.

Exactly! A reporter on CNN was in Philadelphia where they had a peaceful demonstration going on and he almost looked disappointed. I agree with you about the sports events...this constant talk and coverage is doing nothing more than throwing gas on fires.

It's over...justice was served...move on to something else!

Of course! They always have unfortunately. I was so proud of O'Mara last night at his press conf. when he called them out on it ! I predict there will be riots in the streets b/c of this phony "PR" campaign to make Zimmerman a scapegoat disguised as a "civil rights" issue. It's really sickening....

It is a shame, the news producers are in a competitive business and they leave no opportunity to pass to post something "riveting" so people will watch "their" channel. They have to keep their ratings up.

For all of us viewers, it takes some mighty fine thinkin' to see through this and weigh the pros and cons of any issue these days since it is not accepted to jump to conclusions about any groups.

Our granddaughter is a TV news executive producer. She decides often what is news and what news to show. I also know her as a responsible journalist and a fair human being. Hope she can keep her job in this climate.

In my opinion there isn't much "good" journalism anymore...it's ALL about ratings.

Back in the day I took high school journalism where we were taught NOT to editorialize but just state the facts....who, where, when (maybe a why)!! We choose not to watch very much of the news these days as it seems everything is sensationalized with "breaking news"!!

I once heard a panel of newscasters talking, about 4 years ago. Somebody asked about why the difference in news casting between now and when Walter Cronkite etc. were the model.

The answer by a veteran who'd been in the business for decades said "During the Cronkite era, News division was not expected to make money for the network. Making money for the network was the job of the Entertainment Division."

So true. Today's 24-hour channels are there to make money, and since booze, porn, prostitution, drugs and every other Hollywood-glamorized vice make big money for their purveyors, "News" business peddles itself the very same way.....in the gutter.....where people live--I mean "exist"--in abject misery, sickness and addiction.

I think the ones, not just the media, that have been predicting rioting over this verdict are disappointed and would love nothing better than to get something going.

Many in the media have said that having a gun permit comes with responsibility. So does journalism!

Gracie, how long has she been out of college and in the news business? She is so young and has moved up so quickly. You must be very proud.

You are absolutely correct. The media is trying to incite a few riots so they will have additional news to present.

The media.....politicians........attorneys......gun toters......oh my!.......what has become of our country?....can't they all move to like Venezuela or somewhere? :doh:

We've both noticed it. It can't be our imagination.

It's quite blatantly obvious what the media is doing. Stirring up trouble unnecessarily.

There have been more horrible crimes out there that they never cover.

We were watching David Muir on ABC News recently and twice, on two subsequent days, he mentioned a "Dome" over the northeast.....meaning our non stop rainy weather lately..........

Now, we just looked at each other.......a dome?

We've been watching the Steven King mini series THE DOME.
Talk about trying to scare folks.

I much prefer David Muir over Diane Sawyer as he talks much faster and gets in a lot of news........he's from upstate New York and our neck of the woods.......highly intelligent young journalist who is moving up.....but guess he's got to do what he's got to do..........including ABC having Ginger Zee on with all the disaster weather lately.

We often think, "It is summertime. Texas is always hot in the summer" or whichever state they are saying has a heat wave. Now, the flooding is unusual and a true disaster........even up in Vermont as per our Governor.
Flashing flooding had ruined a lot of property.

We actually prefer the way Scott Pelley presents the news; less drama.

We've sworn off CNN as they are so repetitive and again, dramatic and over the top as far as reporting.

It actually was a pleasure to switch over to FOX News......they were more our style.....even though we'd never watched them before. Not much anyway.

In all fairness to journalists (we have a dear friend's son who is an excellent journalist and creative writer)......we actually prefer our local news whether it's the Vermont local news or the Albany New York local news. They just state the facts and don't try to embellish things......
