polo match cost
 

we went to see the polo match today and was surprised at the price, we only wanted to watch the 2:00 match because 4hrs of polo is to much for me and was told it didnt matter...cost was now $30 for 2 or a car load of 4. I cant remember the prices last year, but attendant said they had a hefty price increase, no single match prices and the resident,senior and kids prices were the same as as non resident.

Sounds like they are getting very expensive!!

I wonder if the expenses of the horses and the players have anything to do with it or is it the draw of the polo matches that makes it more expensive.

I attended several matches and decide that this is a very boring sport.

Here's a link to the ticket prices for polo. It has gone up a lot since we first starting going. It used to be $3 per resident. Went up to $5 about two years ago. Now it is $10 for residents but only if you buy the tickets in advance.
Prices also depend on where you want to sit. General admission is the cheapest and the best seats IMO. Children age 12 and under are free, for General admission. The General Admission price is for 2 games. It gets much pricier if you want to sit upstairs or to tailgate.
On Fridays, it's only $5 per person, cash only, at the gate. That's for ANY seat on Friday's.
Most people spend that on a Starbuck coffee.

We were really getting into Polo but this new pricing is not going to fly for us. We will no longer attend.

I did go two weeks ago and they did let us in for free since we were early. I also noticed that it seemed that attendance was way down. Just my observation which may be wrong. I don't think the cost of polo ponies and riders has anything to do with it. To play the sport you must be very wealthy. The horses are very well trained and expensive. The fields are expensive to maintain. All the costs of polo usually rides on the players. I can't imagine the gate proceeds being of any significant value to the cost of running a polo match.

I don't know what's behind these kind of high prices. But I hope whoever is in charge thinks ahead a little. I don't think the polo field has any connection to The Villages so we can probably leave the developer out.

Friday matches are $5 a person...last week the paper advertised the first 50 tailgaters would be let in free on Sunday, and if you take 4 in a vehicle, that's $7.50 each.
There are ways to see polo for less than the highest possible way to do it.

Complaining about the price of things is all relative. I found this site for the Palm Beach Polo Club and you can only join after being approved by the membership and the price must be so daunting they don't seem to want to talk about it.

I think everything about The Villages is great. Which is why I moved here from South Florida. But you are comparing apples and oranges when you compare The Villages polo with Palm Beach polo. The level of play there is significantly higher. There are also many more games a week and many are reasonably priced. Like anything, there are packages that are significantly higher. All depends on one's interest and comfort level.

Is that correct? The polo fields are independent of The Villages.

Gracie, on this issue I think you may be a little out of touch. When we moved here it was $6.00 for the two of us to attend Sunday Matches ($3.00 each). Now it is $30.00 just for general admision, which I agree is the better than the grand stand which I would even be more.

That is 500% percent more!! As you would say yikes!!!

I can't think of anything that has gone up that much not even healthcare.

Maybe it was under priced at $3?

I went to a polo mathch on Friday for $5.00. For four hours of entertainment, I thought it was fairly cheap. A movie cost about $10 and it's two hours.

Sunday matches are more expensive but like Kitty said, they are ways to knock down the cost. I think it's very enjoyable especially if you attend the game with people you like. :smiley:

I thought it was Gary Morse's idea. I went to a couple matches, not a big fan, but I enjoy saying we have a polo club in The Villages.

The polo fields are owned and operated by the Morse family.

The polo club is definitely NOT in it for a profit. They spend way more money on the upkeep of the fields than they get in admission pricing. None of the admission price goes to the players or horses.
Each player owns his/her own horses. A polo match has six periods and each player needs one horse per period. Each player usually brings eight horses with them to a match.
Depending on their individual rating, some players get paid to play and some do not. They are paid by the team sponsor, an individual who is usually also a player. The Villages does not pay the players.
The Villages Polo fields are rated as one of the best in the United States.
Most polo fields charge a much higher price. You can get tickets in advance at our box office for $10 per person,and have a wonderful day. On Fridays, it's $5 per person, cash only, at the gate.

If you buy the tickets in advance at the box office, it will be $20 for two general admission tickets. Yes, it has gone up a lot. When we first came down it was $6 for two.But, I still feel it is well worth it. It's a beautiful, relaxing day out, IMO.
It also helps if you understand what is happening in the game. There are always the regulars who are very willing to explain. They sit in the center on the ground floor of the stadium. The Villages also employs two women who walk through the crowd looking for first-timers and explain the game to them.
