Wife and I had a great breakfast this morning. Service was excellent as well.Real home fries done on the grill with onions... for the hot cakes,I don't know who's batter they use or if it is their own recipe but the best I've had so far.

We have been there several times and never been disappointed.

Just went there for the 1st time the other day. The food was good and the service was ok. The only reason I might not go back is that I think it might need a cleaning. Where we were sitting you could actually see the dust and dirt hanging from the ceiling tiles above us and the floor was needing some cleaning also. It just made me wonder what the kitchen looks like. Might give it another chance to see if maybe we caught it at a bad time. Like I said food was good.

Since I moved to the Villages15 months I have enjoyed the service and food at Athens. But last week I was there with a friend, I was eating my salad and saw some kind of black flies. They reminded me of fruit flies?? A real turn off for me. No sure if I will return

What did management say?

Flies? Imagine that. Insects in Florida. You never know what will enter when you open a door.

Agree that a good cleaning is necessary. The outdoor patio floor needs a massive cleaning.

I remember my Mom saying that 'everyone eats a pound of dirt before they die' but my real point is that we still may try it as it's one of a few places we've yet to try. Does Sumter County publish ratings for area restaurants for cleanliness, food prep, refrigeration etc.?

I am a friend of the people that are the owners and will pass this message on to them about their housekeeping. The food is great and hope that everyone will continue to visit their restaurant. If anyone else has a problem with how clean it is feel free to ask for the owner or manager on duty and express yourself.

Just as a follow up to my first post, the owner of Athens personally responded to my post. He was most gracious and I am sure the situation I noted has already been attended to. My husband and I will certainly return to this restaurant for another try since as I stated in my first post we thought the food was good. And obviously the owner is attentive and concerned enough to acknowledge and thank me for my observation and I appreciated that. We look forward to trying some of Athens other specialities.

Oops.....just went to Sweetbay and no Zwiegles hot dogs to be found. Evidently, when the store was sold, new owner decided not to carry them.

Whimsy, that's great that you posted the response from the owner of Athens. It's always nice to allow them to fix the problem.

If all the restaurant owners would monitor TOTV and follow up like that, and especially address the stated problems, they would do a better business and have fewer complaints on social media. As I said we are very fond of NY Athens and will eat there many times in February and March.

I've booked my neighborhood women's group there for lunch several times and they are most accommodating. Great food! If we could only have more room in our bellies for those die-for deserts.

We just had breakfast with neighbors today and the food and service was quite good. We had never been there and will go back.

I just had breakfast their with my husband this morning...it was the best omelette we have had in a long time..I had the Greek and he had the Philly excellent service too

Since moving to the villages in 2012, Athens has been my favorite restaurant. It is the one we take company to who are visiting, and usually end up meeting our friends there for occasions. Never had a bad meal yet. I am not surprised the owner followed up with you as he seems to try and speak to everyone whether they are coming or going. He seems to take his business very serious. Just a good all around place to eat!!
