What Do You Miss About Your Former Hometown?
 

I've found many pluses to TV, but boy do I miss some things about the Bay Area. I was surprised that they weren't things like the views, the hikes, the restaurants and entertainment. (BTW -- Missing your friends doesn't count.)

Instead, it was REAL sourdough bread, Gallo Salami and the moon being closer. The other thing I think I will always miss is our annual camping trip to Yosemite.

Never thought it was possible, but I kinda miss our bugs -- they're so much smaller, but I do think Palmettoes are cuter than our cucarachas.

Redwitch. I am with you. I miss living on an island 2 miles wide and 14 miles long surrounded by Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway. I miss the two-minute walk from my house every morning to catch the sunrise while walking on
the beach and going to the harbour in the evening to catch the sunset. I miss the smell of the Low Country (lagoons, marshes and live oaks dripping with Spanish moss). Very laid back atmosphere. There are many things I like here but guess we all have to go through an adjustment period when changing lifestyles.

We lived in Crestview, Florida and I don't miss a thing. Our friends moved here and our sons already lived in the Orlando area. We had to travel 25 miles or more to go out to eat. If you went to a bar you had to be careful you did not get shot so we did not go. There were two below par golf courses--well I think they were--we did not play golf then.
It was a boring place to live.

The Adirondack Mountains in NYS are absolutly beautiful no matter what time of year. The upstate area has numerous lakes and rivers along with NYS parks for camping or just picnicking. I also miss Mastranni's Italian Bread and Grandma Brown's Baked Beans! I still get the baked beans but I have to purchase them off the internet which makes them a lot more expensive.

I was just back in Palm Harbor, Florida for a ten day visit. That's between St. Pete and Tarpon Springs on the FL Gulf Coast. They have some restaurants and/or meat shops I missed.

Lived in Palm Harbor for 9 years from 1996 through 2005. Really could not wait to get back to TV.

Do miss proximity to the Ocean. Had this proximity when we lived near Santa Rosa, CA (about 75 miles north of San Francisco).

This is a good subject - I have been given it a lot of thought. Decided it was best to show you what I will miss most

This is where we have Sunday Brunch with people from around the world, enjoy a Halloween party with more than 800 kids and adults coming for trick or treat - they love what they do each year, plus we see our son.

I grew up in the Hudson Valley (Poughkeepsie) and lived for a time in Highland. I used to love going over to Mohonk and hiking in the Mountrains.

I miss the New England fall. I miss the Vineyard. BUT, we have moved on and love living here.

We were in Poughkeepsie last night, took one of the grandchildren to Chunky Cheese, went through Highland to get there.

The fall weather has been quite beautiful and the trees are still very brilliant with color.

There's a local convenience store/market with the contracted open-part-time post office attached, along with the feed store. In the morning I'd stop there on the way to work for coffee and conversation with other "commuters" which included several local businessmen, a deputy sheriff or two, and the fire lieutenant from the firehouse across the street. Real small-town morning stuff, but those are the types of events that stick with you.

As far as missing the four-seasons (as a former New Englander and now DC-ite), that's why I have Discovery channel!

Hi SteveZ,

In upstate NY these muti-task stores/offices still exist. In one town they operate the gas station, general store, post office and tourist info office.

I miss these rural areas.

Moved from Connecticut and I miss Good Italian food, Trader Joe's. vivid fall colors, quaint villages like Essex, Stonington, Litchfield. What I don't miss is taxes and snow!!

ROFL about Trader Joe's -- was whining to my friend about not having one here the other day. Already have my Christmas order in to her. She'll but the stuff as an Xmas gift, but I have to pay for FedEx. Almost sounds fair. lol

Moved to the Atlanta area 20+ years ago from Massachusetts/Rhode Island area - still miss the small towns, fall in New England, hot dog rolls (only made in this area of the country), clamcakes, quohogs, clam chowder, frappes, coffee syrup (again, only in this area of the country), lobster rolls, summers on the Cape....could go on and on...
Don't miss taxes, insurance, heating bills and snow for more than a day...
Despite this, can't wait to be a permanent resident of TV

When I get to the Villagers, not there yet :(, I'm going to miss raking leaves, shoveling SNOW, traffic jams, just to go food shopping, high property tax's, high green fees and most of all I'll miss hibernating for 5 months

I am a life long Michigander. I will be in TV the first of January. The only thing I will miss is the "Welcome to Ohio" sign on southbound I-75.

Hey Barb, I make a dynamite Eggplant Parm, glad to hear you like eggplant, so many people don't.

This is a promise!!! As soon as I get to TV in my new house, the first thing I'll do is make you an eggplant parm sandwich. Okay!!! We'll even have some nice Italian Red Wine to go with it. :2cool:

Funny you should bring this up. I've been here just a month and last night after the tree lighting I got so home sick, I couldn't believe it! I love it here, but we're from the suburbs of Chicago, so I can't believe I'm saying this but I do miss the lights on Michigan Ave. glistening through a few snowflakes. I miss knowing where everything is! I miss seeing the Museum of Natural History and remembering walking through it when I was 5 holding my father's hand. Also the school trips. I don't have any warm memories here yet, but I know they will come. Last night I watched tables full of people laughing, as if they've known each other for a long time. And I do know that will come with time. But I know we made the right move here, the people are all so friendly and I love our house and the market squares. So, probably this time next year, I'll be wondering what all of this mush was about! Anyway, great question. :bigthumbsup:

Being a former southsider, I miss the Museum of Science and Industry, Italian Beef Sandwiches, Good Pizza, Good Hot Dogs, State Street parades, small lakes in northern Indiana, Fourth of July picnics, and many others things even after being gone from the windy city for over 35 years.

I do not miss snow, sleet, ice, cold, the hawk, summer humidity!

Funny the things that we miss where we lived before, then we ask ourslves why did we leave. I miss the Keys but I dont miss what it cost to live there. The weather was the best and yes, no love bugs.
