Driveway pavers
 

Would like to hear from people that have had pavers on their driveway for a few years...any breakage? how often do you seal the pavers? happy with their decision to place pavers vs acrylic paint, etc. thank you

You will have to contend with cracking pavers in the drive/weight areas.
While under warranty the contractor will replace them. Afterwards you are on your own.
Sealing at least every two years.....remember it only gets the top of the paver!

At least a couple of folks in our village have had them removed and had driveways decorator/texture painted.
Which is significantly less $$ to install and maintain.

It is a personal choice.

Can anyone give me an idea as to the cost of having pavers installed for a home with a two car plus golf garage size driveway? How much would it cost to coat the driveway?

I have gotten 2 prices on having pavers installed on my driveway, one was $4.00 sq ft and one was $4.50 sq ft. The one for $4.50 was Pooter's and he warrantees for them for as long as you live there. That price is for the 1" thick paver only. He also sells a thinner paver with no warrantee.

I know folks who have the 1" pavers over concrete that are 6 or 7 years old without any issues with cracking or shifting. You need to seal every few years, and occasionally sweep some sand in the cracks but you have to seal painted/stained drives as well. If they are installed correctly, they will cut your concrete at the edge of the drive and install a few rows of full size pavers (that's where the tires exert the most force entering the drive). After that, the pavers are petty well locked in.

I have the 1" pavers done by Old World Pavers about 6 years ago. The cost was about $5K for a 2 car driveway plus walkway. Many of my pavers have cracked over the years. A few years after the installation, the company gave me a "special" offer to re-do the driveway with thicker pavers for thousands more. We declined.

If I had to do it again, I wouldn't go with pavers. I would go with stamped concrete, which costs about the same as pavers and looks great.

We had Pooters do our Lanai, and after repeated calls could not get them to come out and fix the problem. Very pleasant person, but customer service goes along way. They did not have it.

I made 2 mistakes when I bought into The Villages 7 yrs. ago the first was the brand of golf cart I bought and the second was paving my driveway and walkway, you are kissing your $$$ away purchasing the 1" pavers. Within months the company replaced over 60 of them, now its so bad I don't even bother with them, in fact if anyone wanted them I'd gladly give them all away, good and bad ones alike

Many cracked after 6 years. Would rethink the use of pavers if I were to do it again

i can tell you from experience that the only way to go is the 2 inch pavers. The thin 1 inch pavers have a tendency to rock and come loose and you will definately have breakage. The secont best option is the liquid concrete application that just might last forever.

That pretty much settles it for me, no pavers. I think I'll have the cracked concrete sections cut out and replaced and just coat the whole driveway again. I just wanted to hide the cracks.

I have not been able to talk to anyone about the liquid concrete application - how they like it, how it holds up and if it needs to be sealed yearly? Anyone with advice or experience?

Please let us know which was the wrong brand of golf cart. This type of info is invaluable to us wanna be's!

I have been in the business and that is the best way to install pavers.It keeps them from sinking.The best companies will only install on concrete.

Go to Winter Park where most of the streets have been brick forever. Yes they are thicker but they get way more car and truck traffic than your driveway.
Pavers look great and with snow and plows you couldn't do it in cold climes so now you can.

I love the look of my paved drive, but I have had just a few pavers crack over two years. They were a pretty easy fix.

The biggest mistake that I made was putting in pavers. I would like to remove them. They not only crack they separate on the edges.

Could be the install. The edges are glued to the concrete so not sure why they would separate

6 months.2 inch pavers on sand. No problem. Park in garage most of the time.

Are pavers slippery when wet?
 

I feel I slipped on two neighbor's driveways when wet in the am. Knowledge from others?

They can be if the clear sealant that is used on them doesn't have any grip/grit in it for traction.

Our pavers are not slippery when wet but I have walked on others that were.

I believe pavers are good if they are installed correctly. They should have a good bed of paver sand under them to absorb any uneven paver problems. If the paver contacts the concrete directly, you will get breakage. Go with a quality company and you will be OK.

I had Pooters do a patio it was terrible !

I had Coverall Pavers & landscaping take up all the patio and do over! Did excellent job very professional !!! Showed up early stayed until late evening!! They are awesome!!!they ended doing a lot more landscaping for us !!!

I never even called Clint with Pooters why ??? What he did the first time I would not want again!!! It was not done right the 1st time!!! He showed up once in afternoon and never showed up again let his staff handle collecting balance etc...

Most of the pavers installed in driveways are 2 or 3 inches thick in our neighborhood. The contractors I have talked to recommend using the thicker pavers due to the weight of vehicles. The thinner pavers will crack.
