Best Barbeque close to The Villages

HANDS DOWN, OAKWOOD SMOKEHOUSE ON 27/441 JUST SOUTH OF THE VILLAGES.

Ditto on Smokehouse. If the line is out the door and you do not want to wait, keep going South on 441 to Texas Stockyards on the right. A little more fatty but that's what we like. Also T Weston's in on 301 in Wildwood at the viaduct and Woodys farther down at the turnpike are on our list.

Bonny 02-15-2014 10:00 AM

I like Sonnys. They have really good baby back ribs.

Oakwood; Burke's on 466A towards Fruitland Park; Texas Stockyard; Cody's ain't great but I've had far worse. Have heard good things about Woody's but haven't tried it yet. I'm dying to try Sugarboo's in Mt. Dora -- everyone says it is the best in Central Florida.

If you like wet bbq, you may have a problem. Most bbq here is dry rub with sauce on the side. Took me a bit to get used to it but have gotten to like it almost as much as a good, wet, smoked bbq.

Oakwood

Another vote for Oakwood hands down. Texas Stockyard does not serve baby back and cannot compare. Sorry, but I am a baby back fan. I stick with Oakwood.

TNLAKEPANDA 02-15-2014 12:38 PM

We ate at Woody's and it was pretty good... mind you we are from TN where BBQ is Awesome. Have not tried Burks yet but we will. Guess it depends if you live South or North. For us to go from the South side out to 27/441 just for BBQ it needs to be extra special stuff.

GatorFan 02-15-2014 05:44 PM

Stopped in Burke's couple weeks ago. It was good

salferg 02-15-2014 07:28 PM

Just had dinner at Woodys and felt like it is equal to Oakwood. I had the ribs and they fell off the none. The Cole slaw was excellent. A plus is if you get there between 3 and 6' you get 20 o/o off your entire bill.!

That is what I miss the most here. I don't like dry rub ribs and unlike you I can't seem to get used to it so I don't even try anymore. I really miss those soaked in BBQ sauce ribs from up north.

We like Burkes, Woody's and Oakwood - just ate at Texas Smokehouse for lunch - way too expensive.. and the food was just so so ...
next on our list is T-Weston's...

JeffAVEWS 02-15-2014 09:32 PM

I don't recommend Burkes

mherzberg 02-15-2014 09:37 PM

Burkes, hands down, is the best for quality and price - BUT, the meat is smoked, not BBQ'd so you must add the sauce (that is provided in three different versions). Great food and service!!!

travelguy 02-15-2014 09:58 PM

Sully's Barbeque, is absolutely the best that I have ever had, anywhere.
10820 County Road 44, Leesburg, FL 34788
(352) 483-7427
huge portions, and so delicious. worth the drive.

mjdollard 02-15-2014 11:01 PM

I would vote for Woody's over on 301 by the turnpike

+1 for Woody's

almark45 02-16-2014 12:04 AM

Oakwoods has the best baby backs around!!

sharonga 02-16-2014 12:09 AM

I like Woodys better than Oakwood. Just saying

RETIREDSFW 02-16-2014 08:01 AM

Where would i go to find some good north carolina bbq with a vinegar base? I don't want the sauce on the side.

So far as I know, I'd guess North Carolina. (If you find some true wet ribs here, shout out.)

jblum315 02-16-2014 08:19 AM

Sugarboo's in Mt. Dora has wet ribs

jalopy54 02-16-2014 08:20 AM

Barbecue

Like Oakwood Barbecue, you will leave smiling!

Jullie 02-16-2014 08:39 AM

Another vote for OAKWOOD!

jerseyvillager 02-16-2014 08:58 AM

Bar-B-Q

Oakwood by far. To mention Woody's in the same sentence as Oakwood is really interesting. The new owner's/management must have done a real turnaround. Our last two visits to Woody's (8-9 months ago) were our last. The food was terrible. We will need to give them a try.

We are also from East Tennessee (Kingsport). We have a great place in Bluff City named Ridgewood Barbeque. Its really good. All the Nascar drivers and other celebrities eat there. Very close to Bristol motor Speedway.

Fore-Reel 02-16-2014 12:39 PM

Oakwood Bar b Que. Have been in this area for 32 years, taste and value, hands down has it over the rest ! Have not tried Texas Cattleyard in Lady Lake yet. Burkes taste is okay, very small portions .

e-flyer 02-16-2014 05:44 PM

Join the Florida BBQ Association and become a BBQ Judge. We have had some of the best BBQ (chicken, ribs, pork, brisket) ever since we started judging, lots of professional cook teams from all over the south come to Florida for some of the larger competitions. As far as local restaurants, we like Oakwood the best, but will try Woody's and T-Weston's in the near future based on recommendations.

JohnM 02-16-2014 06:48 PM

Based on the recent good reviews for Woody's we went for dinner tonight ... Had the sampler and the pulled pork ... It was just OK ... Food was barely warm and nothing special and service was very slow ... YMMV

Hmmm, No! No!
You gotta go back to Ft Worth, Texas. :mmmm::mmmm:
I vote for Texas Stockyards here. The meats are great but the sides have a little to be desired. I guess BBQ is a subjective thing.

You're right! Meats with a deep smoked flavor, sides not great.

We had the same experience last year at Woodyd, but they have a new owner and it is really good. Worth a try.
