Disobedient dog owners
I am surprised no one mentioned today's article in the Daily Sun Local Section Page C1 & C5 "Disobedient dog owners causing messy situation" |
OMG! The epidemic is spreading!
Now even the Villages Daily Sun is featuring a doggie poop thread. |

I'm told that all postal stations south of CR 466 are private property, owned by the Developer, with eight exceptions .... The following facilities are owned by the SLCDD: Ashland, Belvedere, Sunset Point, Poinsetta, Bonnybrook, Lynhaven, Winnifred and Bridgeport. |
Any mention of the new "no dogs allowed" at mail boxes rule?

Attention inventors:
We need someone to come up with an invention to deal with dog waste. It might be something that deals with it right on the spot so it doesn't have to be picked up. Something like a pulverizer/sterilizer rod. Invent it and get rich.

So the DEVELOPER is paying them for policing the area? WE are not paying them for this out of our amenity fees? Or out of any of our fees? |

Where is The Village of Tamarind Grove located in TV?

We never needed to ask about whether it was friendly for us with our dog, either, because WE accommodate for our dog and the land he needs for running around and pottying on. If the one-acre or half-acre lots we had, or the courtyard villa lot we have here were not big enough for the dog to get enough exercise on, then we'd buy a place with several acres. Can't afford several acres? Then change course. There's acreage for sale outside of TV for a whole lot less. You can't have your cake and eat it too. And finally, the title of the newspaper article and the title of this thread got it right: it's the OWNER who's irresponsible and the usual problem, not the dog. |

When will dog owners realize that the WHOLE area around the pools, bocce ball courts, shuffleboard courts, mail boxes and horseshoe pits are where HUMANS walk? So KEEP OUT. I'm glad my fees will go towards patrolling by Community Watch and I hope the ID checkers too. It's time for signs to up! There is a huge area all around the Poinciana Pond that can be used for walking their dogs. |

What I find curious about your post is the fact that you believe it is "your way or the highway". Why not the other way around - and in the words or the infamous Rodney King "can't we all just get along"??? |

Another point I would like to have emphasized for clarification is the difference between taking a dog out to go potty and the other is taking a dog for a walk. Let me present me as an example. I take our dog to go potty on our property. I take my dog walking...everyday 2-3 miles on the multi modal paths...and like all the rest of the 95% responsible dog owners I carry a plastic bag in the UNLIKELY event she has to potty while walking. Always seems easier to generalize than be specific, however it does cast an unwarranted tone for those of us who do right. Are you ready to call out your neighbor when they do the wrong thing? Another resident elsewhere in TV? History says no. And the times we live in there are too many who do not want to offend somebody (but will B-eye-itch here and elsewhere). Enforcement by all or it won't work. Signs alone won't work. Perfect examples every day in so many ways...speeding...rolling through stop signs....throwing trash on the streets and paths....parking in unauthorized spaces and on and on. REMEMBER WE ARE ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT THE 5%.......who do not comply. Three cheers for the 95% of us who do what is right. And yes I do call out those who do not pick up after their dogs if I happen to see/catch them......sometimes not a pleasant encounter, but most of the time it is vocalized as an oops or I don't have a bag, etc (while under their breath they think screw you old man!). NORMAL. 3 more cheers for the 95%. |

Long leases. I know that The Villages allows dogs and provides places for dogs to run unleashed. By providing places for dogs, in my opinion does not mean owners can let their dogs go wherever the owner feels they should be. Dogs should be confined to their property or use the dog parks. They should not be walked on private property |

As far as taking a dog for a walk--just make sure you are keeping the dog off private property. Simple- if you don't own it and it is not public property keep your dog off the property. I can tell you that if everyone would do that this would be a dog friendly area. If you walk your dog down the street--don't let him go in the neighbors yard, not difficult. Actually it is a pretty simple task, especially since you have them on a leash.
Have them go in your own yard, walk on street until you get to a sidewalk and proceed. Dog friendly--I have two dogs Maltese and Yorkie and we love dogs! |

Gets my vote.....right after they pass one limiting smokers to smoking only on their private property......come on folks, get real.

What is the difference between "dog friendly community" and "allowing pets"? |
I'm sorry a dog pooped and inconvenienced you but I hate it even more that we had two golf carts stolen this week and now another robbery in Santa Domingo.
I guess it's all a matter of perspective. |

Is there a fine for dog fouling? In my town it is £100 / $160 if you are caught not cleaning up after your dog. It works.

Most of the folks on here that are complaining about dog poop.....have NEVER seen dog poop. Most of those complaining about dogs in restaurants have NEVER seen a dog in a restaurant. None of you have EVER seen a dog poop or pee on a mailbox. Nobody has tripped on a dog or a leash. You haven't had a dog poop on YOUR lawn, YOUR mail station....or even in YOUR neighborhood. You are just going along with the conversation because you don't like dogs or you have had a few too many drinks under your belt when you decide to post your ridiculous anti dog comments or you love to upset other folks just for the fun of it. I know that you know that 99% of the dog owners here in the villages are considerate, caring individuals who would NEVER allow their dog to do their business without picking it up. Take a deep breath, realize that the dogs are here to stay...weather you want them or not...they are here...they will walk where they want, they will eat in the restaurants that will allow it and if you don't like it......move.

Let the dog haters stop painting every dog owner with the same brush, please.
My dog has never stepped paw on anyone else's lawn but mine. We walk in the street or on the sidewalk on a short leash. Frankly, along with Billethekid, I am sick and tired of the slamming of all dog owners because of a few. Time for the mod to close this thread as well. |
Tripped over another cigarette butt while walking my pooch today. The smell of cigarette smoke must be overpowering the smell of urine as I have yet to smell urine or poo at the TG postal area! Ban smoking from the area too! That is so much more offensive than a group of happy dog owners and their happy dogs socializing in this area! And to all dog owners pick up after your dogs if you aren't already!

The question was where did the 99% number come from? Was there a study or a survey done? Once again a dog owner telling others to move if they want the rules followed. What gives anyone the right to say this? And from the numerous posts there appears to be many that have witnessed the behavior. If the developer is having to have a mail station watched this too also says a lot. |
