sports cars
Closing on Duval Villa 12/03/07. VERY excited. Have visited TV twice recently. Have not seen that many sports cars! Where are you? I'm mmoving to TV from the frozen tundra, and it seems from first blush that there are more sports car lovers in the north than in the south, Am I missing something? How do I find you???

Re: sports cars
gotta be a sports car club, if not you and redwitch can start one, you can be president.
|
Re: sports cars
I know that there is a Corvette club, but I have yet to see a sports car club that is open to all makes. Redwitch will you be president? What is your ride?
|
Re: sports cars
Any Jag owners there? I have a 1971 XKE V12 2+2 unfortunately it will be in NY not TV. I've been toying with the idea of having it shipped down next year once we get settled in our new house. We closed in Aug and are moving down as snowbirds in Dec. I haven't seen any XKEs in the Village Square Car shows when we have been there or even many Jags for that matter.
|
Re: sports cars
my brother had an xke probably that same vintage 25 years ago what a cool car. he belonged to a jag club and we used to compete in kitty crosses, closed course slalom runs, i came in third once. i have a 96 Z28 convertible, does that qualify??
|
Re: sports cars
As I was fueling my 1972 TR6 back in the early 70's, there was a beautiful XKE V12 in British Racing Green stopped at the intersection in front of the gas station. I called out to the driver, telling him how I admired his car...
He rewarded my attentions by putting down about 40 feet of rubber when the light turned to green. What a sight! A Jag doing a burnout! Then he caught 2ND! golfnut me thinks that the spirit of your ride gets you in! Can it burn rubber? |
Re: sports cars
Sadly, I have a "sports car" but not much of one thought I love it to death. It's an old, beat up Mazda Miata, great fun and on its last legs. So, don't think I would qualify for a sports car club.
Now, if I still had my old Porsche, that would be another story! |
Re: sports cars
redwitch,
while the miata may not enjoy the panache or the capabilities of a porsche, it certainly qualifies! one of the most fun rides ever built. many will never have the pleasure of owning an expensive sports car such as a porsche. the miata has allowed many, many people to enjoy the experience of driving a great handeling car. for this fact alone the miata is my first nomination to the sports car hall of fame! |
Re: sports cars
My wife has a 1978 Austin Healy Sprite that she has owned since 1970. The Sprite was originally British Racing Green but is now white, with a black interior and has 77,000 original miles on it. Because we are still in Maine (not moving to our house in the Villages until Oct of 2009, 677 days 16 hours and 8 minutes but who is counting) it is only taken out in the summer. When we take it out on the highway you really can feel how small it is when the tractor trailer trucks go by and you can look up at the bottom of the rig. ;D It has a huge ;) 1275cc engine so burning rubber is really a piece of cake (riiiiiiight). The most fun we have with it is driving on the twisting back roads of Maine.

Re: sports cars
everybody in my home town (warwick, ri) drove muscle cars, until one of the coolest guys,(wally gladue) bought an austin healey 3000. i think it was designated as a mark 2. white with a blue top and interior. real wire wheels. this thing was absolutely beautiful, fun to drive, and best of all, all the girls loved it!
|
Re: sports cars
Larry, I bet the neighbors were impressed when your wife showed up at home in 1970 driving a 1978 car!
|
Re: sports cars
Porsche 944 (2 of them), Mazda Miata (when it first came out), loved them when we had them.
How about the new Mini-Coopers? Anyone have one of those? Where do you get one serviced near TV? |
Re: sports cars
a friend bought the cooper when they first came out...loved the handeling, although the car seemed underpowered to him. traded it for a cooper s and claims that there is a world of difference. remember that coopers are fwd and cannot be directly compared with the miata or 944. if god had intended for cars to be fwd, he would not have invented the drive shaft!

Re: sports cars
Golf nut.... ooops... why didnt the spell check catch that.... it should have bee a 1968 Austin Healy Sprite... my bad :dontknow:
|
Re: sports cars
I thought that peabody and sherman had snuck that sprite back to 1970 in the wayback machine...
|
Re: sports cars
awwwww come on guys a simple typo..... it happens when you get our age..... ;D but it is a sweet lil car. The license plate reads IMNOMGT Can any of you sports car people tell me why?
|
Re: sports cars
Cause it ain't a midget? And how do you tell the difference?
|
Re: sports cars
Why not name it The Cool Car Club?
|
Re: sports cars
Oooh ... I like that! Then everyone who feels their car is cool could join!
|
Re: sports cars
To all you sports car nuts, I'm a British sports car nut and would like to start a sports car club in TV after the first of the year. Let me know if there are any more sport car nuts out there that might be interested. I would be willing to be the founder of this club with help from other car nuts.

Re: sports cars
cool car club!! now we are talking! this is exactly what I'm looking for!
monte carlo SS to quatroportte! we need a way to be connected to communicate about where to buy tires locally, where to have the suspension adjusted, where to buy coco mats! Who to trust to service; and who not to trust... I love all those classics that I saw @ cruise night 2 weeks ago, but they are for the most part garage queens. Wish that I had the luxury to afford.. dad..I saw an XK8 at spanish springs 2 weeks ago,, |
Re: sports cars
coco mats!! Almost forgot about those, I think I had some in my V dub.
|
Re: sports cars
they were good then, and they are good now! if you look around at the aftermarket suppliers, you'll srr that they are making a comeback1
|
Re: sports cars
How about a club for the "Not Sports Cars"? ;D
I own a 1991 Geo Metro Convertible with a 1 L/3Cyl engine like this: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...66_14_full.jpg I know, I know.... it goes 0 - 60 in 3min. 1rnfl A colleague of mine threatens to pick it up with a backhoe and hide it in one of the dump trucks in the Gas Co. yard. |
Re: sports cars
As long as you think it's cool, you can join our club. ;)
|
Re: sports cars
punkypup,
not only is your car cool, it is exclusive! how many people can say that they have a 3 cyl? politically correct and great for catching the scenery! |
Re: sports cars
Thanx steve0528 & redwitch,
I don't know why but I have this thing for funky little cars. The Geo is getting a complete rebuild this winter. I found a JDM engine with 24,000 mi & an auto transmission with 26,000 mi. on it. By the time spring rolls around I'll be ready to start working on the interior. I'm looking for a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder Suzuki X90 4x4 next: evil6 http://images.autotrader.com/images/..._A.562x421.jpg |

Re: sports cars
Dennis,
Not quite as frozen as Alaska! In Rhode Island today, we are enjoying the first frozen precipitation of the season! Not much accumilation. just enough to cause many, many traffic accidents. New England drivers are dangerous on dry pavement. |
Re: sports cars
punkypup,
in the villages, your geo is as fast as my porsche..and probably easier to live with!!! |
Re: sports cars
1rnfl steve0528, too funny.

Re: sports cars
THE sports car! My mini cooper (Max)!

Those cars are great!! How are you getting the pics in the text box??? :dontknow:
|
Re: sports cars
saw a brand spankin' new Aston Martin Vantage in LSL recently. Haven't felt that way since the first time that I laid eyes on my first wife!
F16 flyboy! Don't you love all those kids in the Civics that want to challenge you out on the roadway? I smile at 'em. I think that they know that they have little chance. But I have to laud them for their spirit!! |

Donna,
On the help page it explains how to post pictures - right above this post area there's an icon under the U for inserting pics from your files. Hope this helps! |
Re: sports cars
F16 flyboy,
In 10 years, that civic will just be a pile of rust, while you will be driving a classic 'vette.. I won't admit to my speed, either, it sure was fun! Please remember that after 90 MPH that that little (toyota, mazda, nissan, honda, etc) is a rolling casket, while our high priced supercars are as safe as a vault! Speed is one thing, competant speed is another issue! |
1967 Porsche 911 Soft Tail Targa
I have a 1967 Soft window Targa ...Fully restored with only 67,000 miles on her....She was #183 of 500 made in '67 quite rare and becoming extremely valuable... she only comes out on perfect days in the winter...see ya on the roundabouts!

Only Christopher Lloyd (as Emmett Brown) could pull that off and it has to be a Delorean with a Flux Capacitor. Those were great shows Hope Michael Fox gets better with the Parkinsons L and L |
