All dogs are welcome in TV, to visit or to live. They just need to be leashed unless they are on your property or in a designated dog park. They must be cleaned up after and not a bother to any neighbor (ie: barking). We have the largest of dogs here and the miniest of dogs also.

Lady up the street has her daughter and her Bernese Mountain Dog visit on a regular basis. They don't get much bigger than that. Love when he's around.
|
A couple months back we made a similar inquiry and were told large dogs are acceptable.

And enjoyable. |
I think the dog must fit in a baby carrage.

You get the Gracedog post of the day. I love it when people are sensitive to all of us youthful people who live here in The Villages. ;) |

Also if a beagle is considered a large dog then there are some XXXXXX's around here and everywhere else!! Just curious for a first time post? |

Over on the Gulf side of FL, many of the condominium buildings also have a size limit on dogs. We know because we have house-hunted there. One of our MI friends found a place on the bay in Sarasota that they bought mostly because it was one of the few places they saw while condominium hunting that allowed dogs over a certain size. They had a 70-lb yellow lab. I would not consider a beagle to be a large breed. But I think OP was referring to the fact that the majority of the dogs you see in TV are of the toy size, or at least 20 lbs. or less. Vis-a-vis that, she might think a beagle mix was considered a larger breed. Just my speculation. |

The top reason we ended up buying in The Villages .... they have no restrictions on size of dogs.
As you can see in my picture, we have a large rescue, Lollipop. The little guy is Biggins. The Villages is very pet friendly. Dogs must be leashed and kept off private property. And of course, you must pick up after your dog! There is a huge private dog park, $3 per day, if you want details please PM me. |
The more I know about people, the better I like dogs.

A Beagle mix is a large breed??? :a040: Yes, that's funny! I'm not sure what to call my 95 lb. mixed breed rescue gal, but of course, your daughter's pup is welcomed here. |

My guess is that your little girl is a large Doberman/whippet cross. Where do I pick up my box of crackerjack with prize? |

The dog parks I have seen within the newer Villages (south of 441) are a joke. However, the one on the other side of 441 is not bad at all. Shaded by trees, benches for humans, water for the pups, separate areas for big and little dogs and best of all -- FREE! We truly need a new one that offers the same things, south of 466A -- one that is SPACIOUS . . . please! |

We gave up on Villages provided dog parks. We go daily to the private park on CR 101, just north of Southern Trace Plaza. We pay $30 per month for two dogs. It is enormous with three separate fenced ares. Our dogs love it there, and we've met many great dog lovers. It's well worth the drive! |

You definitely got the Doberman part right. Where did you come up with the Whippet part? |

Can anyone tell me what the dog park near Bonita Blvd. is like ? Are there separate areas for large and small dogs? Thanks for any help you can give me on this topic.
|
There are separate areas for large and small dogs, but it is a pathetic excuse for a dog park. Lots of dirt. The large dog side is short and uphill. The small dog part was full of barking dogs, and it sounded like they had worked themselves into a frenzy. Both sides are small and right next to each other. Our dog was put off by all the barking, looked away when we had to walk past it. (That's his modus operandi when he's afraid or leery of something.)
Also, it's closed for certain hours during the day. We only went there once and were so disappointed we never went back. |

I do believe that if you're physically active, there is no problem having a large dog. We love our 70 lb dog and she gets lots of exercise. If you are willing to put in the time, there are options. Your property may be small. However if you take your dog to the dog park every day, your dog will get plenty of exercise and be able to play off leash and socialize! Many people take their dogs for long walks, it's good for the dog and also for their humans. Dogs of every size are welcome in The Villages. |

Maybe golf2140 feels HIS property is too small. If he has a 1100 sq ft and does not or is not able to put forth the needs of a large dog, then it would be a bad choice for HIM. He probably didn't mean that we all have properties that are too small. Dogs do need exercise and I'm sure that everyone who is lucky enough to share their life with a pup, gives them the space they need. My pup is a big dog disguised in a little cockapoo body.

I don't know who named this area a "dog park." I would tell you to not even bother but I guess everyone has to find out for themselves. The place is beyond a disaster, it's so bad. The closest thing I would call it is the dog run on a hill. The hill doesn't go up and down either; it goes sideways and is maybe -- about 15 ft. wide! |

I don't see ANY Beagle in that photo at all. I see yellow Lab and German Shepherd. |

The tiny Bonita dog park is supposed to be adequate for the thousands of dogs that live south of CR 466, including the new areas south of CR 466A! I'm not a fan of walking dogs at postal stations, but I do understand why people do it. |
