Anole or Gecko
 

We love to watch the anole's scamper around the bushes.

We have had rocks (large) added as they seem to enjoy them a lot. We also get them crickets to eat from pet-smart.

Does anyone else enjoy these little critters?

We have a few around our place. Glad to have them around to feast on the insects and spiders. They are interesting to observe.

I enjoy watching the anoles running around. I sit out in my yard in my adirondack chair reading the newspaper and out of the corner of my eye I see them on the palm trunks and running over the rocks. I never thought to buy crickets at Pet Smart to feed them. Sounds like a great idea! As a boy in New Jersey I used to buy some anoles at the pet store in the summer and let then run loose in our screened in porch. I loved to watch them creep up on the house flies. Boom! They had a tasty meal. During the winter they lived in a terrarium inside the house. We used to call them chameleons. That's what the pet store called them too. They can change color to suit their surroundings.

Every year I have a few that sit at the slider just waiting for that door to open....;)

When my 9 year old grandson comes to visit, he loves to follow them around. Now that I know they eat crickets, he will have even more fun! NO, he does not harm them. He only enjoys watching and following them and will absolutely love feeding them crickets.

I have heard that they can be poisonous or at least make a cat or dog sick, if they eat them...but I'm not sure if that is true. However, my cat, was chasing a gecko and ran head first into the sliding glass door that was shut! Knocked himself out. So, be careful when pets are around.

I have also heard, but don't know if it is true, that frogs are poisonous (or at least will make them sick) to cats & dogs if eaten.

I love them. I get a lot on my lanai. I sit and talk to them and they will start nodding their little heads. LOL
They get on the screen at my doorwall of the living room. They will stay there for hours looking in. They are so cute !!

They will run full blast across the floor for a cricket. They will not touch a love bug.

Also known as the cane toad or marine toad. Even if a pet just licks them it could be dangerous.

Glad you are enjoying these non native invasive Brown Anoles. They have decimated the native Green Anole population

Mother Nature had nothing to do with it .... she puts everything exactly where it should belong and every time MAN manages to import an animal or plant to a non native area it is a disaster.

OK OK. I did not mean to make you upset.

We had a abundance of them (anoles) where I lived before here. Since the sliders to the pool cage were open a lot, I did get them inside, but a kitty always chased them down, so I knew where to go get them. Yes, I have heard they can be poisonous to kitties...one of mine only played with them, but we were afraid the other was trying to eat them, so we had to watch him. About a year before we moved, we had a family of Geckos living on the lanai behind some wall hangings. They are lower to the ground when they run, and kinda waddle back and forth. Lighter color, too. Amazingly, you can almost see through the babies. I am excited when I see a little "lizard" here, and I hope we get more as the construction slows down, and the trees and shrubbery grow up.

In Vietnam it was considered good luck to have these in the house. Although when I saw them in our hooch, I tried to sleep with my mouth closed.

I love them also-they taste just like chicken. ;)

I am not even enamored with the GEICO anole/gecko

I was truly afraid of them at first, but getting used to them. Don't mind them outside, just don't care for them in the house.

Just wait a couple of years more until the 4 foot long Monitor Lizards start appearing in The Villages. They are vicious critters that eat anything their size or smaller. Lock up Fluffy and Fido!! These critters are now multiplying in the Ocala National Forest and have been sighted in Ocala.

They seem to be attracted to those big natural landscape rocks. They love crawling in, out, and around those things.

Really?? Had them down in Cape Coral also. Only saw one once running across a main street. Almost as weird as seeing an alligator on the street! They were trapping them...don't know where they were taking them...maybe to the Ocala National Forest. :jester:
