The birdies will be flying off to the North.

The high season will be ending.
And soon we will be sending.
The snowbirds back to the snow.

Lots of birds will be leaving,
And folks will be grieving.
For friends, with all feeling low.

We will miss them for certain
and find it a burden
to watch them all pack and to go.

We will miss the huge crowds
And the talking real loud
and the saving of chairs for the shows.

We will try to be cheerful
And not be too tearful
In thinking that they all gotta go.

So we'll tell them we miss them
and we'll hug and we'll kiss them
and try not to grin or to show

That when they are gone now
The lines won't be so long now.
and later for dinner we can go.

We'll find it consoling
that pickleball and bowling
We'll be first in line then to go.

We'll have space at the Publix
and the parking will be all fixed,
and shopping won't be so darn slow.

Our golf groups won't be booted,
And our driving not saluted
with interesting gestures and calls.

We will miss them all badly.
But maybe not ALL sadly.
And joyfully look for their return in the fall.

Just teasing you snowbirds. We love you and we will miss you.
We will just spread out a little while you're gone.;)

LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!
A very nice blend to say that it isn't that we don't like snowbirds--the ones I personally know, I like very much, and I will really miss them for sure. It is just the disruption to our every day lives that we don't like, crowds, getting kicked out of golf, traffic, everything you said. I can't imagine any of the snowbirds would like it if the population of their town doubled or whatever, and for 3-6 months of the year they experienced the same problems. But, that doesn't mean that we do not know it will happen again next year, and it obviously doesn't mean that we are moving to leave this wonderful place. It is what it is.........

Mimivillager 03-17-2014 06:02 AM

Gracie, that is so perfect and well written. Did you write it?:clap2:

Phanatic Luvr 03-17-2014 06:50 AM

Awwww, stated so Gracefully!

JBarracks 03-17-2014 06:54 AM

Very Nice GG.

tainsley 03-17-2014 07:12 AM

Nice Gracie! I am already going through withdrawal :(
I will miss my friends!

e-flyer 03-17-2014 08:20 AM

Gracie, a poet is born! Very nice to read, I enjoyed it a lot.

CFrance 03-17-2014 08:28 AM

Not only are you an artist, you are a poet too! But now I have to face the departure of my dear neighbor in May.

The Buckeyes 03-17-2014 10:36 AM

This snowbird will be flying south pretty soon!

adk77 03-17-2014 12:42 PM

Snowbirds pump a ton of cash into this place from September through April.

Duvalboomer 03-17-2014 12:48 PM

Will miss the birds, but will not miss all of the renters

justjim 03-17-2014 01:15 PM

Renters spend their money too

Nothing wrong with those who rent. Some are my good friends and have rented for the last five or six years.

From an economic standpoint, they may be a lot smarter than some of us snowbirds that own property.

DianeM 03-17-2014 02:21 PM

Gotta say that if I was a snowbird or a renter I'd be finding this posting quite offensive. People are just people. Why the need for labels for their address status.

raynitsche 03-17-2014 06:39 PM

We're snowbirds and proud of it and no offense taken. Life
Couldn't be better than winter in The Village and summer in
Western New York.

2BNTV 03-17-2014 06:46 PM

A painter, poet and I didn't know it.

redwitch 03-17-2014 07:02 PM

Personally, I love the snowbirds, the snowflakes, the renters and us frogs. We have a wonderful blend of people here. For the most part, I think we do an excellent job of accommodating each other. And I love Gracie's poem! Good job, sweetie.

Having lived in many places a thing I have observed. Many Canadian Geese would migrate to warmer climes during the harsh winters up north. Little by little I noticed that some stopped migrating and took up permanent residence because the climate in their former winter homes was tolerable year round. I believe that more and more of the folks that winter in the Villages are staying longer and some have decided to enjoy what TV has to offer year round and not just the peak season and I don't blame them because I made the same decision years ago.

jalopy54 03-18-2014 08:36 AM

My wife and I loved it!!!

justjim 03-18-2014 08:46 AM

Just wonder how many Snowbirds in TV and what % leave at the end of March and then at the end of April?

Nice poem Gracie----so gracious and so much talent. Have a nice day!

graciegirl 03-19-2014 05:18 AM

Diane.

Most of us adore our house guests and enjoy the time they are with us.
But....sometimes it is lovely to see them come, and see them go.

My treasured friend, who I see every day but Saturday, my across the street neighbor, will be leaving the end of May. I will miss her all summer. But while she is gone, the Villages becomes another place, a little easier to drive in, a little less standing in line.

I am sorry you see it rude, my poem, I was striving for witty.

To all of our very dear friends who are snowbirds, I love this forum. You will be here exchanging pleasantries, and wisdom, and input and debating with all of us everyday. So in a sense you will still be here in spirit. I hope one day if it is YOUR dream, that you can be frogs like some of us. It is WONDERFUL.

I appreciate that at high season, the businesses are able to get a bit ahead to get them financially through the slower times. I appreciate that when we were snowbirds, we were sustaining things with our amenity fees.

I apologize to those who I have offended. And to you Diane, particularly.

Sincerely,
Grace.

And thank you so much VT2TV for "getting" my meaning.

They may be leaving
while we are still here,
But all of my seasonal friends
are quite dear!

Miss you guys already!

DianeM 03-19-2014 10:18 AM

I tried to defend folks I thought were getting a bad rap. Obviously they don't care so I don't either. I'm done with TOTV.

Barefoot 03-19-2014 10:35 AM

Gracie was having a little fun with her poem, that's all. As a seasonal resident, I take no offense.

I used to be a little sensitive when a poster would say things like "thank heavens the scourge of the north is leaving". But then I moved to a resort community in Ontario and now I understand perfectly. During summer weekends, cottagers flood the resort. On Monday it is quiet and peaceful again. I love seeing my cottage friends and socializing with them on weekends. They bring fun, vitality and energy. And on Mondays, I love the serenity and absence of boat traffic. Now I totally get how Villagers feel about snowbirds.

A special thank you to the owners of TOTV. It's a great way for Snowbirds to hear about what's happening while we're "up north", and to keep in touch with friends. It makes me feel as if I'm still connected.

I guess some are just too sensitive and read more into things than are actually there - its a light hearted poem sad to see many go but glad for the quieter times. Just like family visiting, its nice to have them for a while but then its nice to have peace and quiet...there is only love in this poem.

You are so nice Bare ........... I don't think I have ever read an abrasive post from you. By the way, did your knee heal properly?
