New Game -- Name that Artist
Now that we're back into relax mode for a bit, thought I'd start a new game that I've found to be rather fun.
So, guess the artist or band and THEN post your lyrics right below your guess. BTW, googling the lyrics is cheating. :cop: This is the one that has been stuck in my head for the last TWO days. In the white room With black curtains Near the station That one shouldn't be too hard. |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Cream
Blackroof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings. Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes. Dawnlight smiles on you leaving, my contentment. |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
"It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word you can light up the dark" |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Ah, one of my fave performers. Love, love, LOVE Clapton!
Not sure about your second one. Gotta think about it. Won't post a new lyric until your other artist is named. |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
But grn .. where's YOUR lyrics?
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
I guess grn just wanted to answer. Thats Ok, try this one, real easy
Early in the evening just about supper time, Over by the courthouse they are starting to unwind. Four kids on the corner trying to bring you up. Willy picks a tune out and blows it on the harp. |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
l2ridehd....
Creedence Clearwater Revival Down on the Corner ............. Don't want to step on Grn....but, here's another easy one: It's a little bit funny This feeling inside.... |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Grn ... that be my man ... Da Boss aka Bruuuuuceeee! Tanx, haven't heard Tweeter and the Monkey Man in a long time. May just go put it on.
Two days past eighteen He was waiting for the bus In his army greens |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
I think that may have been the Dixie Chicks. Although someone else may have done it as well. Here is one from the greatest group of all.
Please allow me to introduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste I've been around for a long, long year Stole many a man's soul and faith |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Yes to the Chicks. And you can't beat The Stones! We gotta start making these harder!
Try this one: You're talking it all sounds fair You promise your love how much you care I'm still listening and still unsure Your actions are lacking, nothing is clear |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Boy Red :o
That is a tough one. I asked everyone here, wife, kids, cats, UPS guy making a delivery, tried to catch the garbage truck, and no one knows. My daughter google'd it and now she knows but refuses to tell. Can you give us a hint? |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
I like your daughter -- she has ethics! Hmm ... a clue ... how about think German?
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Is the Stones sone Sympathy for the Devil? My all time favorite group. I love Mick!
How about: Realms of bliss Realms of light Some are born to sweet delight Some are born to sweet delight |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Well so far there has been folk, rock, country, and I got one for jazz, but need to solve Red's first. And I think I got it. Just took everyone out to some vineyards and did a few wine tastings. Asked each place we went about her lyrics. Well when I mentioned German, someone said "of course, it's Berlin. And Sarah said "you got it". Personally I never would have, but that's what help is for. So is that right?
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Good job! No More Lies by Berlin.
Can't wait for your new one! |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Barb,
Your namesake...barbra streisand...."Evergreen"...I think??? |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
07 .. You forgot step 2 .. posting your lyrics.
If you don't post new lyrics, the games dies cause there's nothing to guess. |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
OK, Red....I thought Hog still owed you one. Here goes:
An only child Alone and wild A cabinet makers son His hands were meant For different work And his heart was known To none -- |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Nah, he finally got Berlin. :-)
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Now that one is easy, Dan Fogleberg (sp)
Now another easy one. How can I just let you walk away Just let you leave without a trace |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Forgot the name. "Leader of the Band"
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Probably the greatest American band -- The Eagles, I Can't Tell You Why.
In the magic of moonlight, When I sigh, "Hold me close, dear," Chances are you believe the stars That fill the skies are in my eyes. |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
I could get cute and say Elvis since he did do a version but I'm going to assume you want Dusty Springfield's name (and the song is now going round and round in my head) and you Really don't have to say you love me. ;D
This will be easy, at least if you know me: I remember every little thing As if it happened only yesterday Parking by the lake And there was not another car in sight |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
That's Sir Elton John.
There's a story told of a very gentle boy And the girl who wore his ring Through the wintry snow The world they knew was warm |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Someone is probably going to boo and hiss me for hiss for this but not one of my fave groups. Was much more into Janis and Jimi than the Beach Boys.
Okay, I'll take either of the two females that sang this: Autumn in New York, why does it seem so inviting? Autumn in New York, it spells the thrill of first-nighting. Glittering crowds and shimmering clouds in canyons of steel; they’re making me feel: I’m home. |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Prefer Billie Holliday's version better, but yes to Ella, too.
Andy Williams for yours. As around the sun the earth knows she's revolving And the rosebuds know to bloom in early May Just as hate knows love's the cure |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
So Rare and only version I know is by Andy. lol
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Okay, I'm ducking as I say this ... sorry, but Jimmy Dorsey is before my time (but I DO know who he and his brother are!).
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
 :arrow:barb me thinks rw cheats..hey red witch ,didnt I see you on name that tune?
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Awful at playing Name that Tune. Need more than a few notes. Don't cheat but will happily ask friends and neighbors for help if I'm seriously stuck. Most importantly, I was fortunate to be raised in a home that always had music and the music was never limited to one genre. :)
Now, I do admit that I will double check my lyrics either through a CD (which is not cheating) or google them to be sure I'm correct (again, not cheating cause you're not looking up the answer). Okay, new one -- maybe it's time for a one-hit wonder: Too many teardrops for one heart to be cryin' Too many teardrops for one heart to carry on You're way on top now Since you left me You're always laughin' Way down at me |

Someone is probably going to boo and hiss me for hiss for this but not one of my fave groups. Was much more into Janis and Jimi than the Beach Boys. "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring", by The Four Freshmen. One of the reasons The Beach Boys became successful was by copying the Freshmen harmony. |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
? and the mysterions ,,,,96 tears  my turn---If you dont know me by now--you will never never never know me.....
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Kreg, I know the song -- been singing parts of it all morning but be danged if I can name whodunit. Driving me crazy!
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
It was "something Melvin, or Melvin something" and the Blue Notes sometime in the early 70's. ere is another oldie but goodie.
You are always in my heart Even though you're far away I can hear the music of the song I sang to you You are always in my heart |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
l2 -- Dino!
Herman Melvin and the Blue Notes -- great Philly soul group (Teddy Pendergrass was a member). THANK YOU!!! Simply Red also did this song (had to go through about 500 CDs to find that version -- yes, my CDs are in alphabetical order). |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
He might have done it at some point, but sorry, it was Dean Martin
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
I forgot to post a new song. This one is probably a toughie, so I'll give some hints. This was written by Margaret Roche but not the Roches' version. The singer is a solo artist, female. Probably jazz/folk genre best describes her.
One in Louisiana one who travels around one of 'em mainly stays in heart-throb town I am not their main concern they are lonely too I am just an arrow passing through When they look into my eyes I know what to do |
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
English your right. Guess Glen was before my time ;D whereas Dean was during it. Should have known though, as most of Dean's stuff was a remake of someone else's stuff. Will work on your post now.
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
English, I hope that yours is Linda Ronstadt's version of "You're No Good," since she's the only artist I can remember off the top of my head although many have done this son.
|
Re: New Game -- Name that Artist
Think I'm going to have ask people about yours. And good luck on getting mine above (11:09 am post).
