Help Name The New Four-Legged Grandchild

We are grandparents of a new Grand Puppy (four-legged grandchild). They keep dragging their feet about naming the puppy. We have made suggestions, but they still have not named the poor little guy. Can you guys make some name suggestions for a cute little black & tan male dachshund?

Stretch.

We have a black and tan Gordon Setter four month old puppy. We named him Brodie but I think we should have named him Chester for his chestnut color.

Uptown Girl 04-05-2014 08:32 AM

Barney.
Or Farfel !!!! (Remember the puppet in the old Nestles Quick commercials?)

Daschunds are wonderful doggies. I've had 3 of them :)

No Beau, Joe, Moe or anything that sounds like No.... too confusing.

jebartle 04-05-2014 09:15 AM

So that is why our long-haired dachshund is confused!

We named him Moses!(Also black and tan).....Adorable BUT not the brightest light!:shrug: ...The good news, he loves his Mama!:pepper2::pepper2:

In answer to question from PO, how about "Sambo"...Sam for short!

Best German Dog Names for Dachshund

This is what I got from thinking about my own dog and how often I almost lose mine. I liked Klauser from the above list.

I know a number of dachsunds-- Petie, Lilly, and one whose name escapes me.

GeoGeo 04-05-2014 11:43 AM

Great suggestions so far. Maybe something will strike their fancy. Here are just a few of the names I suggested:

Dash, Chance, Ozzy, Sir Lancelot (Lance), Snoopy, Stretch, Max, Ziggy, Baron Von Wiener Schnitzel (Bare), Peanut, Eman (Name spelled backwards), Papi (sounds like Poppy - I believe a Spanish word a woman calls a man when she is flirting with him). I can't remember the others.

Keep them coming.

help name the four legged guy

How about Guinness like the beer thats the same color.

CFrance 04-05-2014 09:29 PM

Maybe they're waiting for him to reveal his own name. Our first golden was named by a seasoned dog-owner friend who insisted he looked just like a bear.

Yung Dum 04-05-2014 09:46 PM

How about "Otto"? Easy to spell and nobody likes it. And it's a palindrome! Winner all around. Or is it weiner all around?

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 04-05-2014 09:47 PM

If I get a dog I'm going to name him Steve.

jebartle 04-06-2014 03:31 AM

How about...

Hoover......he will clean up crumbs......if he is a long hair, then Swifer! Same reason

graciegirl 04-06-2014 06:00 AM

Dachshund is a German name, so Gretchen, Heidi, Liesl, Karl, Franz, Hans or my favorite;

Willie bite.or

Kissenger?

CFrance 04-06-2014 06:54 AM

Our friends had a very cool wire-haired doxie named Schotzy.

SantaClaus 04-06-2014 07:13 AM

We have two mini dachshunds, and I wanted to call our boy Oscar, but it just never fit him. He's white and grey so we called him Ash, or Ashford when the occasion calls for it!

kittygilchrist 04-06-2014 08:07 AM

:ho:name him Boxer so he will grow up believing he has legs. And everyone will laugh when they first hear his name.

scarecrow1 04-06-2014 08:16 AM

How about DOG ????? Then he won't be confused with CAT!!!!!

We had friends who got a little daisy dog that couldn't have weighed more than four pounds fully grown. We were debating his name at breakfast and someone came up with Moose. It stuck. Moose is now ten years old.

Sueclark 04-06-2014 08:52 AM

schnitzel

CFrance 04-06-2014 08:52 AM

Let us know what they finally come up with.:MOJE_whot:

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 04-06-2014 08:58 AM

Although it's a German breed, I'd stay away from Adolph.

But, you could name him Hamburg after the town so people won't call him a hot dog.

maryj 04-06-2014 09:24 AM

How about Guinness?

Bonnevie 04-06-2014 10:58 AM

I read that the old time dog names are rare now, so I'd name him Fido.

I thought the same thing, but all that he has revealed is words that I can't post here.

Thanks for the name suggestion of Digger. Sounds like maybe you had a negative experience with a dachshund in the past. LOL

That's a good one. I thought about some names that sounded like big dog names. Little dachshunds think they are big dogs anyway.

Redwitch,

I think your suggestion would solve their problem. Just call him Nameless, as that IS what he is.

GeoGeo 04-10-2014 03:24 PM

The Name Is: Rebel

Well, none of us are the winner in this naming contest. They didn't come up with a name for the new grandpuppy. Nothing seemed to fit. So the decision was that they are going to call the puppy Rebel, which was the name the original owner had called him.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, though.
