Drying clothes
I was looking for some feedback about drying clothes that don't go in the dryer. Since we've arrived 3 months ago we put our wet clothes on hangars in the closet. Now that its getting warmer and more humid I thought that may not be the best place. I have no idea where to put them for quick drying.
Any ideas? |

We hang on hangers from the wire maid shelves in the garage. Dry overnight no problems.

They go into the garage and hang from the shelving. Usually dry within an hour or two. Of course, in the colder weather, it may take over night to dry.

Shower rod in guest bathroom. Of course when guests are not there, oh maybe sometimes if they are and staying too long :)

The ceiling fan on the porch.

I put my shirts, shorts in the dryer for 3 minutes tops. This gets out all of the wrinkles. Then I hang them in our closet in the laundry room or sometimes on the lanai. I've never had a problem with them smelling musty from hanging in the laundry room. I do keep my air conditioning vent open in the laundry room and the door open.

Why not just use the dryer to dry clothes? Thar's what it's for. Why make laundry harder than it has to be? I'm sorry but I don't understand the need for hanging wet stuff to dry when we have machines that do the job for us.

We installed a retractable clothesline (from Lowes - sure HD has them also) in our garage. Works great and is out of the way when not in use.

There was a renter on our street that hung all her beach towels on the white picket fence for all to enjoy. Not a pretty sight!!
|
Gee I throw it all in the dryer and never have a problem. Oh well. Live and learn

I have a wooden folding drying rack that I use just for delicate, hand washed clothes and put it on the lanai in the sun. Dries in a matter of a few hours.

Oh brother do I miss my clothes line and the smell of fresh hung out to dry sheets! When I actually had a line that was not restricted I hung everything out - barely used the dryer. Clothes last longer, look better, and less wrinkled.

Do NOT put even damp clothes in a closet, let alone wet ones -- ever! Eventually, you will get mold growing on all your clothes, shoes, etc. My advice would be to always keep a light on in your closet. Keep the closet door closed and the heat from the light bulb will help to keep your closet dry. |
I also use the retractable line in the garage. Love it!

I have a wall mounted drying rack in the laundry room. You just lift it up when you want it when done push it down when you're done. I also have plastic holders that hang over the top of the doors in the laundry room. Sweaters, I have a table top mesh square and put it on my lanai table and lay the sweater on it.

One of my neighbors washes quilts and bedspreads in her washer while her husband washes the car. Then he pulls car nice and clean into garage and she spreads spreads/quilts on car to dry. Out of sun so no fading and no wrinkles from stuffing into dryer. Works great!
|
This is probably a hi-jack, but would you be offended if your neighbor had a clothesline in their backyard?

Save energy and dry cloths in the sun not the dryer
|
Sorry but I don't want to see anyone's skivvies baking in the sun

I thought I read somewhere in my deed restrictions that clotheslines were not permitted. I have always loved my clothesline but was resigned to giving it up, along with having a pack of dogs that I will miss, when I move to TV. It is what it is. Am I wrong about the clothesline?

No clotheslines outside.

Yes, Clotheslines Outside Are Permitted
The Villages covenants: "The hanging of clothes, or clotheslines, or placing of clothespoles is prohibited to the extent allowed by law."
HOWEVER: Florida State Law: "Title XI COUNTY ORGANIZATION AND INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS Chapter 163 INTERGOVERNMENTAL PROGRAMS 163.04 Energy devices based on renewable resources.-- (1) Notwithstanding any provision of this chapter or other provision of general or special law, the adoption of an ordinance by a governing body, as those terms are defined in this chapter, which prohibits or has the effect of prohibiting the installation of solar collectors, clotheslines, or other energy devices based on renewable resources is expressly prohibited. (2) A deed restriction, covenant, declaration, or similar binding agreement may not prohibit or have the effect of prohibiting solar collectors, clotheslines, or other energy devices based on renewable resources from being installed on buildings erected on the lots or parcels covered by the deed restriction, covenant, declaration, or binding agreement. A property owner may not be denied permission to install solar collectors or other energy devices by any entity granted the power or right in any deed restriction, covenant, declaration, or similar binding agreement to approve, forbid, control, or direct alteration of property with respect to residential dwellings and within the boundaries of a condominium unit. Such entity may determine the specific location where solar collectors may be installed on the roof within an orientation to the south or within 45° east or west of due south if such determination does not impair the effective operation of the solar collectors. (3) In any litigation arising under the provisions of this section, the prevailing party shall be entitled to costs and reasonable attorney's fees. (4) The legislative intent in enacting these provisions is to protect the public health, safety, and welfare by encouraging the development and use of renewable resources in order to conserve and protect the value of land, buildings, and resources by preventing the adoption of measures which will have the ultimate effect, however unintended, of driving the costs of owning and operating commercial or residential property beyond the capacity of private owners to maintain. This section shall not apply to patio railings in condominiums, cooperatives, or apartments. History.--s. 8, ch. 80-163; s. 1, ch. 92-89; s. 14, ch. 93-249; s. 1, ch. 2008-191; s. 3, ch. 2008-227." Wow! If they are going to (or have to) allow that then they should allow 6' privacy fences so we don't have to look at it! TV was very sneaky in their "to the extent allowed by law" language. They clearly want you to think it's prohibited and to be ignorant of the superceding rights granted in law.

agreed

I think clothes lines will look like a gypsy camp. Is that what you want??
