Square 1 Burgers & Bar

Went there last night. Place was packed. They're working the bugs out, so give them a break. New place everyone want's to check it out. Décor is very nice. We got our seats service was a little slow, like I said very crowded. Food was VERY good. Burgers were delicious, melt in your mouth. Onion rings were also very good. The manager came over apologized for the wait comp'd us the first round and bought us 2 desserts. Very nice gesture, will return again for sure.

Bonny 04-10-2014 08:48 AM

We were there yesterday for lunch. Very good burgers. The pile of onion rings is huge and love it that on Wednesdays, they're only $3.00.
The owner is very nice and I love the decor. We'll go back !!

keithwand 04-10-2014 09:06 AM

Did you have to camp out in front the night before?

Bonny 04-10-2014 09:09 AM

We got there at 2:00. They had a really nice lunch crowd. Everyone seemed to be enjoying everything.

eremite06 04-10-2014 09:16 AM

Hey, Bonny.....how's the bar?

Bonny 04-10-2014 09:51 AM

I love the bar. That's where we sat. The outside bar is open to the inside.
Happy hour 3:00 - 6:00 and then again later a night.

dewilson58 04-10-2014 11:24 AM

Looking forward to it.

Four of us went there for dinner yesterday...arrived at 4:45 and seated immediately. It did fill up quickly after that. Four of us had three different types of burgers...all felt the burgers were very yummy. Cooked perfectly, good size, but, not monstrous. The $3 Wednesday onion ring special was a great deal and the O Rings were fabulous...tasty without being too heavy. I had sweet potato fries with my burger and they had just a hint of cinnamon...very good. Happy hour was $3 for draft beer.

Service was friendly, manager checked on us, all in all, a good experience and we will be back.

We wish them well.

GaryW 04-10-2014 02:38 PM

I was hoping the burgers were big... Maybe a double cheesburger with xtra cheese tomoato and bleu cheese and hot wing sauce... That is my favorite from Beefs.. and that is almost a 1lb burger

ladylake1 04-10-2014 02:43 PM

Where is this place?

It's in the new Pinellas Plaza where the Sweetbay grocery store is.
It's located at the very far end on the Powell Road side.

Bonny 04-10-2014 03:16 PM

Pinellas Place Shopping Center. Off of 466 A between Buena Vista and 301.

Indydealmaker 04-10-2014 03:16 PM

We just had a late lunch at Square 1 and all I can say is: "This place proves the adage that you get what you pay for". This is not a run of the mill burger joint. Really good burgers with a significant variety of choices. Great onion rings. Good service and attentive management.

Go online to their website and sign up for their newsletters and you will get a coupon for $5 off on a burger.

Bonny I think you mean 466A and not 466.

As my husband was not feeling well I stopped in about 4:30 on Tuesday and picked up two burgers to bring home. One was the Kobe burger and one a Buffalo burger. With fries the check was about $30 plus $6 tip. A little pricy but the place is beautiful, service was great and the burgers were delicious. They also offer chicken and veggie choices!

Bonanza 04-10-2014 10:59 PM

My husband and I went for the first time tonight. Yes, for a hamburger, they are a little pricey but the burgers, while not large, were excellent. In lieu of regular fries, we paid an extra $1 for sweet potato fries and an extra $2 for onion rings. All good!

Now, here's the big surprise . . . drinks were half price -- both well and call brands. My husband wanted a Chivas on the rocks and I wanted a Maker's Mark on the rocks. Easy, wouldn't you think? You can only get a mixed drink for half price, meaning that you would have to use a mixer of some sort. Can you imagine killing good booze with coca cola or whatever??? We told our server to forget it and had a Pepsi.

When we go back, I'm going to ask a manager about this dumb rule.

With it all, we still put it on our recommended list. Quite a bit of money was spent on the decor and the restaurant occupies 4 store fronts. We sat outside tonight and it was a lovely evening outside.

We loved it too! Try the bignets with two dipping sauces for dessert. One order will easily feed two or three even though they are really yummy! Welcome to The Villages, Square One. You're a welcome addition to the dining scene. And thanks for having vegetarian options too.

Happy Hour starts again 9pm to closing

travelguy 04-13-2014 07:33 PM

stopped in today for lunch. totally ignored by the hostess and a server who did not acknowledge us until they were finished with their conversation. signed in and got one of those vibrating electric gizmos, even tho there were no other people waiting. we wanted to sit outdoors and were told there were no table available (there were 2 empty outside at the time) so we went out to sit on a bench; in 5 minutes she came out and told us we could be seated, and took us inside to a back corner....we had asked for outdoors and then were escorted through the restaurant by another host and were seated. he was quite knowledgeable about the specials, and you could tell he was well trained. we ordered, the food came quicky. i had a philly burger and my wife had a crabcake burger. both were good, not outstanding, but good. they were not huge, just the right size, but overpriced for their size. the fries were good, but not great. 2 sandwiches, 2 sides, no drinks, 27.00 plus a 5.00 tip. an expensive lunch. 5 guys is a much better value, much better food, and their fries are outstanding. will not go back again to square1burgers

by the way, what are bignets?

gerryann 04-13-2014 07:56 PM

Bignet's are the pastry that you see in New Orleans, pronounced Bin Ya

TNLAKEPANDA 04-13-2014 09:32 PM

No way will I wait for a burger. Doesn't anyone here ever cook?

travelguy 04-13-2014 09:48 PM

then they are not bignet; they are beignet. no wonder i could not recognize the word. and they are pronounced ben-yay.

You are absolutely correct.
Thanks for making it right (before I did)!

CharTalk 04-14-2014 03:27 PM

You are right. Sorry. I'm sitting on the patio right now & looked it up.

keithwand 04-14-2014 06:40 PM

Going tomorrow around 3:30 to 4 for late lunch.
Looking forward to trying it.

philnpat 04-14-2014 07:45 PM

We were there with our golf group of 16 on Saturday. It was a first visit for all of us. A few were satisfied, most were not. I ordered a simple All-American burger medium well with onion rings and an Arnold Palmer. After we were served the waitress came back and asked if everything was cooked to our liking. Mine was medium rare. I showed it to the waitress and she said "huh! It is kind of rare!" She walked away...thought she was going to tell the kitchen about the problem. Never saw her again until she brought the bill. I asked her if she told the kitchen about the problem...Got a blank stare...asked her if she forgot the refill on my drink that was promised earlier...same blank stare.
Didn't bother talking to the manager...we aren't planning on going back anyway. The best part of the meal were the four onion rings for a $2.00 upcharge.

keithwand 04-15-2014 04:34 PM

Went at 4P and no wait.
We each had a $3.00 beer, a bleu and black burger with cole slaw, a Juicy Lucy with baked beans and a side of onion rings. $42. Plus tip.
Food and service were good.
Won't be regulars but a nice addition to TV.

How was that $42 broken down? Sounds extremely expensive.

TNLAKEPANDA 04-15-2014 07:08 PM

We had an early dinner there today. Not going to stand in line for a burger. Food was good and tasty. A bit expensive in my opinion. Burgers for two and a few drinks $40 with tip. With no drinks still $29. As long as the food and service is good I guess it is worth it. It was a larger place than I had expected.

It is expensive.... go and check the menu. Food is tasty sooooo not McDonalds.

Aloha 04-15-2014 07:58 PM

Actually, the only noteworthy point for this place is the excessive price. Other than that, nothing else is remarkable.

Simply fried dough. Make them myself.
