Friends

My husband and I would like to meet a couple of couples who enjoy smoking (not in the house) and also enjoy adult liquids (in moderation), as well as cards and board games. Any suggestions?

Lynn222 05-20-2014 01:51 PM

I can't believe 200+ people viewed my post and no one even made a suggestion.

Chi-Town 05-20-2014 02:05 PM

Perhaps the smoklng option limited the replies. I doubt it was adult beverages, cards, and board games which are Villages staples.

Part of that is your fault. You picked a good heading! "Friends" is bound to get a lot of curious "clicks".

As far as responses, I am sure that it is only a matter of time before you get a response. 200 out of over 100,000 people is insignificant. Just keep asking.

Good luck.

Maybe this is because the answer seems obvious. Try going to the outdoor bars where people are smoking, sit near them, order a drink, and start a conversation.

Or host a neighborhood BYO driveway party with smoking section.

A lot of the lookers are from far away like I.
I only wish I could join you.

Hi Lynn I am not in town either and that's why I didn't respond. I think the person who suggested you go to the outdoor restaurants/ bars and strike up a conversation is a good idea. That is how we met a few people and also some at the town squares. We ran across a lot of friendly people.

I also think part of the reason you didn't get much response could be because of the smoking. Most people do not want to be around it.

Sadly, I'm single, so that leaves me out.

gomoho 05-20-2014 06:12 PM

Well isn't this special - let's beat up the OP cause she enjoys smoking. Lordy, Lordy what has this site come to??? She wants to meet friends not be told what to do. Some people need to learn to just zip it.

Lynn - wishing you the best of luck settling into your new life in The Villages and finding a group of friends that works for you. If you have a dog that poops and pees you might want to share that so they can really tear into you.

Oh good grief! She has certainly heard this before.....and most certainly already knows she should quit. Nobody's "beating her up". They're just telling her what she already knows. She'll find folks that enjoy the same. Go to the outdoor bars as was suggested.

I know smoking is an issue for many. But I am who I am.

Lynn, I have an idea that you might want to try and I'm sure you would get a lot of replies from interested smokers: Start a Smoker's Club.

There used to be an office at La Hacienda where you could get an application to start a new club. It's easy and they advertize it to see how many would be interested. You would need a certain minimum number of people. You would be assigned a meeting room -no smoking- but you would be able to discuss with other smokers where you might go to smoke and play cards etc.. Then the room might come in handy to plan and discuss other future smoking events.

chachacha 05-22-2014 03:33 PM

hi lynn,

i hope you get some replies as i know you are a wonderful person, funny, resilient! i don't know if VillagesPL was kidding but i think that might be a good idea! am so glad you found someone except that now i never see you any more!! :)

Wandatime 05-22-2014 04:04 PM

My husband and I used to smoke but we both quit about three years ago. However, we have friends who smoke and don't mind being around them as long as it is outside. Don't mind having a drink or two, either. So, I guess you got a couple of potential friends right here!

2BNTV 05-22-2014 04:10 PM

Host a driveway neighborhood party, by putting flyers at your postal station.
It would be a BYOB, and something to share, so your effort, would be minimal.

Hopefully, there will be some people who have similar likes.

Usually I like your comments and suggestions. However, I find this to be a rather rude response.
If you have ever smoked you can appreciate how difficult it is to quit.

The o.p. asked for suggestions with the words, "Any suggestions?"

Suggestions have been made as requested.

That's disingenuous. Know darn well that's not what she meant.

Below is what I suggested in post number 5, and there was nothing disingenuous about it.

The o.p. asked for suggestions twice, and did not say "tell me only what I want to hear."

Hence, some responses did not meet everyone's PC standard...but the o.p. took it in stride by saying "I am who I am." I'm sure people respect her for that and more.

By smoking, is the OP referring to cigarettes?

She was asking for suggestions to find friends who liked the same things she likes, NOT for suggestions that she change her lifestyle to suit what someone else feels is right. A couple posters chose to deliberately misinterpret that, and that's what I'm referring to. It's still disingenuous.

And no, I'm not a smoker. It's her right to ask a question and not be slammed for it.

kagney123 05-23-2014 08:20 AM

Lynn..Sorry you have received a couple of rude comments...
Heres my suggestion hope it makes you smile.....

Mention the smoking game club is "BYOM" Bring your own munchies?....

Thank you gomoho...you must have been reading my mind! Wow, unbelievable...
