Know who the new owners are Skip?

Indydealmaker 04-27-2014 12:08 AM

If Sal has sold out already, I wonder if this is just another example of the "kids" not really learning at their father's knee after all. Or maybe it is just The Villages Restaurant Curse.

I am REALLY confused. He is a villager, right? Sal Whatisname? I thought it seemed very successful, but of course snowbird season is over.

buggyone 04-27-2014 07:36 AM

The Village Restaurant Curse? If a restaurant is good, it will last! For example, Thai Ruby, Sonny's, TooJay's, RJ Gators, Cody's, redsauce, and City Fire have all been at Lake Sumter Landing for over 4 years. They are all making money! They are good restaurants and very well attended.

Lighthouse, Evergreen, Bonefish...

Richard1366 04-27-2014 09:15 AM

That $8 split fee did them in...

Jdmiata 04-27-2014 09:45 AM

I loved this place. Sauce was really Italian.
Is this just a rumor ? Hope it is.

Yorio 04-27-2014 09:49 AM

Didn't care too much about this place so crossing my fingers that something great will replace it. Haven't been to Havana yet but have heard good reviews about it lately. If at first you don't succeed in convincing the restaurant is not up to par, try, try again. How long did it take us about Havana?

Yes, I did know this, but I have been in the hospital and couldn't respond. There is another owner involved. We'll see what happens there.

Halle 04-27-2014 10:52 AM

Bonny hope you are feeling better.

Again, the voice of reason. Buggy your smart enough to be from Iowa.

CFrance 04-27-2014 01:23 PM

I've heard that they did a study, and posting is good for healing, Bonny. Get well soon!

Bonny, well wishes to you. Get better soon.

Just got home from Mezza Luna. The management has changed, but it's still in the family
Food hasn't changed a bit , nor the menu.
A good Italian restaurant !

Patty55 04-27-2014 07:13 PM

Good to hear nothing will change, Mezza Luna is one of the few restaurants I actually enjoy.

scrapple 04-27-2014 08:25 PM

Food was ok but the service was terrible! The waitron took forever to bring us our water. The salad took another lifetime. Then the pizza came much later and I really believe it had been sitting out for a while because it was cooled down considerably. And then we waited yet again for plates! Not real thrilled.

Typical complaints from many patrons. And the management didn't care. We've seen customers just getting up and leaving because they waited too long.

Staff turnover is high too.

They never had a Grand Opening.

I saw that also, Skip. Been there a few times, I like the food and I get good service because I know a lot of the wait staff, but I've seen many others very dissatisfied. Whole families have gotten up to leave. Its too bad, what do we have to do to get some professional servers???

I think what we need to do to get professional servers is to start with professional management that trains employees well, then treats them with respect and pays them well.

I kinda think that should come before management treating customers well. If the waitstaff is trained to be efficient & courteous, management will deal with few customer complaints. JMO

We only went there once (high season), and the service was very good. But we went for an early dinner (4:30) and were out before the lines were out the door.

It would be so much easier on everyone if TV restaurants would take reservations.

alanmcdonald 04-28-2014 12:52 PM

We have been there only once (first week of April) and our server was very helpful and attentive. It was a Saturday at 5 pm and the place was already almost packed.

He said he had only been working there for one week.

Jdmiata 04-28-2014 01:37 PM

Have eaten there a dozen times. Never had a problem with the servers.

Not the servers, so much as the kitchen.
That's all changed now.
Let's see what happens.

Mezza Luna is a quality Italian restaurant. Coming from the land of Italian restaurants, NY and NJ, I should know. I love Mezza Luna and I hope it prospers.

CFrance 04-29-2014 05:05 PM

They have good southern Italian food, but their chicken and veal dishes are tough as nails and flavorless. I would stick with the tomato-based menu items, which are very good.

horsey35 05-04-2014 06:54 PM

Mezza luna Not closed!!

I just got back from lunch at Mezza Luna and I heard 2 sets of guests tell the bartender that they heard that Mezza Luna was closing. Cathye the bartender was bartending and she asked that we squash that rumor. Please people, They are open and they are still have kept everything in the family. new management/ownership is all.
Lets try and squash this rumor for them please.

jblum315 05-04-2014 07:14 PM

Thank you for posting that message. A nasty rumor that could do damage.

DougB 05-04-2014 08:12 PM

Keep you expectations low like I do. Then you will never be disappointed.

horsey35 05-05-2014 07:09 AM

just a rumor. The brother in law, who was with Sal from the beginning is back in the picture. Sal finally got to retire.
