America: The Movie

there is a new Dinesh D'Souza movie opening nationwide on july 2 which imagines the world if America had never won its independence and risen to be the shining beacon on the hill which has done so much for so many other nations. a great way to spend fourth of july if our theatres here will have it! check the listings as the day gets closer.

Thanks for the information. I am not much of a fan of Dinesh D'Souza but to each his own. I do hope it opens in the Villages. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...explore-711291

Didn't Dinesh D'Souza just plead guilty to violating campaign finance law and will be serving time in jail? It would be surprising if TV would show the movie under these circumstances.

Dinesh D

I doubt if that would matter all that much. His movies are about the flaws of other people.

Doubt it will be shown in Iraq.

he is being discredited because of his production of 2016 which some considered unfavorable to Barack Obama, when in reality it merely showed the influences under which he grew up and how they affect his world views. similar to the IRS targeting Tea Parties....but this is not a political movie nor a political thread.

2016 movie

Whoa...."it merely showed the influences...?"and Bill Ayers did not set any bombs off.

ilovetv 06-14-2014 07:52 AM

It's a movie. People still have the freedom to "take it or leave it".

It will be a sad day if/when a movie is banned by government or "Big Hollywood" because its writer/producer is a political dissident serving a jail sentence.

Movies are banned from being shown in The Villages all the time because of their political leanings, as are public speakers, book signings, etc. So much for the "take it or leave it" theory. If you want to take it, you will have to travel out of this area.

IRS targeting tea parties and Bill Ayers. Hmmmmm.....strange lines for a non political thread.

It will probably be here at some point.

Not something I am going to scratch in on my calendar but it will probably appeal to many in the Villages. It is a Lionsgate distributed movie too. We did not get any movies distributed by Lionsgate for quite some time here in the Villages. That was the reason I missed the Lincoln Lawyer the First installment of the Hunger Games trilogy and 3:10 to Yuma. This caused travel outside the Villages to see these Lionsgate films. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ionsgate_films

The Villages (as developer and sales enterprises), movie producers, and the movie theaters are private enterprises.

They are not the "government" who could one day start locking up political dissidents to stop them from producing movies, books etc. if people blindly follow their "perfect" party right into the abyss. (There are those on both sides.)

linko38 06-22-2014 08:56 AM

So excited it will be here July the 2nd. I am facebook friends with one of the producers daughters. She said it is great! The reviews coming in are giving it high marks!

chachacha 07-07-2014 07:26 PM

back to the film itself, i have now seen it and can give my opinion that it was very well done, thought provoking from both sides of ideologies, and brings out the truth cited by george washington that no foreign power would defeat us, but rather we could only die a death by suicide, which is what we are slowly doing! see the film and see if you don't agree! the audience applauded at the end, which always makes me feel good! :) and the charges against the writer are also touched upon.

Wondering how crowded was it? Great Britain pretty much broke even with us in the War of 1812. http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/12...e-war-of-1812/

chachacha 07-08-2014 09:53 AM

audience size

i would say that since i went to a monday one thirty pm performance, the size of the audience was pretty good...nationally the film is doing very well. it is a topic which it behooves every citizen to ponder!

l2ridehd 07-08-2014 11:36 AM

I saw it yesterday at the 1:30 show in LSL. (didn't see you there Chachacha, but arrived a bit late) I was a skeptic. And I was also one of the many clapping loudly at the end. I didn't agree with everything he pointed out in the movie, but he was spot on with a lot of it as well. Very well done, very thought provoking, and if you believe half of his message, we are doomed as a nation and will be destroyed from within.

To quote a famous "person", we have met the enemy and it is us.

chachacha 07-08-2014 01:55 PM

i was right in the first row as i like to put my feet on the bars in front of me :) i did not get the feeling we are doomed, YET, but if people do not get active and counteract the damage which has been done, vote knowledgably and discuss things reasonably, then you might be right :(

Although I have yet to see the movie I wanted to read the book which is currently #51 on Amazon's best seller list. I am on my local library's wait list since D'Souza is quite popular around here. Costco just pulled the book from its stores although it was selling well. Dinesh D'Souza book yanked from Costco shelves - Washington Times

Without taking sides, the ceo of Costco is a strong supporter of Democratic candidates to the point of encouraging employees to wear Democratic candidate campaign buttons. I've seen this myself. So maybe the reason was not as objective as some might believe. :just saying:

Chi-Town 07-08-2014 07:15 PM

Costco is not a bookstore. 51 doesn't cut it. Anything else us bull.

Sorry but I seen how Costco does things and it's not bull.

Well, come to The Villages, and you won't have to worry about Costco. And you'll have fun.

dbussone 07-08-2014 07:23 PM

I'm in The Villages and having a ball. Thanks, I hope you are also.

Chi-Town 07-08-2014 07:26 PM

I'm having a ball too. But like one cannibal said to the other.......

This article states it was #5 overall on Amazon, #1 in its field. Costco removing D’Souza’s ‘America’ from shelves

N44125 07-09-2014 09:12 AM

Thank you COSTO. Thanks to the publicity that COSTCO gave to the book, as of 10:00 a.m. this morning America is #1 overall on Amazon Best Sellers. Great marketing tool COSTCO to put the book #1.

Just saw America the movie. The theater was almost full and there was applause at the end. The film shows how some are perverting the truth about America. I for one liked it very much.

capecodbob 07-09-2014 04:35 PM

Saw the movie and it was excellent.
Only the brave should go to see it. If you're hooked on cool aid, you might want to stay home as the shock of the truth might cause your heart to stop.

Chi-Town 07-09-2014 05:18 PM

Love it.

pattytracey 07-09-2014 07:59 PM

want to see America...it is a wonderful movie

Hancle704 07-09-2014 10:55 PM

Costco stopped selling the book. Does Trader Joe's sell books? Not that it really matters because we probably won't see either store in TV.

helen lovely 07-10-2014 09:27 PM

America; The best movie of the century

A history lesson like no other. Don't miss it if you have to go to Orlando or Ocala. Regardless of what side you are on it's enlightenment we desperately need today.

jrandall 07-24-2014 09:21 PM

We saw the movie today. It was very educational and thought provoking. Excellent!

kittygilchrist 07-27-2014 07:45 PM

I thought the movie was the one of the must see films of my lifetime.
