This online newspaper
I really wish they would try and find some better subjects than all the negative in The Villages. I propose we boycott them to get the message across. Most all newspapers just try to report all the terrible things in life find something good it will help improve the world.

As a 43-year newspaper I can tell you that tragic, negative and nasty draw the most readers. It's an unfortunate human condition. Only good news sites don't last long. I'm not happy about it, but it's reality. By the way, we'll be renting in The Village Jan-March, 2015, so it you're a West Virginian or, heavens, a Monongah High alumnus, check in with me and maybe we can have a reunion.

The online rag caters to a select few and is very quick to sensationalize Everything it can. "if it bleeds, it leads". That's the news media mantra.

Pool Talk is that website was started up by several reporters that were let go after the recent sale of The Daily Sun. Payback?? They aren't "The Daily Fun" for sure. They give us some of the "rest of the story" The Sun won't print. Some stories may not be image appropriate. |
Here's a suggestion to all the naysayers, if you don't like the on-line newspaper...wait for it...don't read it.

I think all stories deserve coverage, but not necessarily in a purient way. However it's easy to not click for details on the headlines that we find distasteful. Or to just read a couple of lines and decide we've heard enough. |
If all you want to hear are the chipper good times then you have The Daily Fun, WVLG & VNN. Lots to choose from.

Negative sells---good example is all the negative political ads which are half truths at best or statements taken out of context. The on-line news does give another perspective which is not always printed in the Happy paper. Although, In the last eight years I've seen a bit of change in the Happy paper. I like to read both and also a couple of other Newspapers two or three times a week.
Unfortunately, some only get a narrow one-sided perspective of a "spin" on what is happening on the local and national scene. Also, they tune their television to only one cable news channel. It's difficult to really be informed that way. |
i got it ,, thanks to everyone for the help!

Really? Here are the top five articles under the News section as of now:
Village of St. James resident back home from overseas deployment Gov. Scott to attend grand opening of campaign office in The Villages Resurfacing work set Friday, next week for roadways in The Villages Sumter County to be presented with prestigious award for 2014 budget 19-year-old Lady Lake man arrested on charge of battery I don't have an opinion on whether or not other people should read it, but I honestly don't see any bias. I personally want to be made aware of local crimes more than I do about the latest line dancing event. |
GREAT online service, :BigApplause:

If there is a story about the Villages I am interested in, I research every source I can get and then look at what seems to have the most authentic ring to it when judged by my living here in the Villages since 2005. |
Had not heard that someone was holding a gun to anyone's head to force them to read "that site."
I think that it falls under freedom of speech. |

It reminds me of the former Political Forum on TOTV. No-one is forced to read the Online Newspaper People can pick and choose whether to click on the headline for more details. The Political Forum on TOTV had an "Opt In" feature. People would Opt In, read it and then complain to the Mods about the contents. One poster even complained about the Political Forum while stating she'd never read it. Oh well. I do respect the Admins decision. They are the peeps that have to moderate the bickering. And they have every right to make whatever decisions are best to improve our TOTV experience. Sorry, back to the Online Newspaper .... |

I find the paper to be objective, factual and informative. It provides a realistic perspective on what is going on in The Villages.
I especially appreciate their reporting what is happening crime-wise in and around The Villages. That the bubble provides those within a cocoon of physical safety is an illusion. |
I find the mix between the online news and the Daily Sun gives a well-rounded view of what's happening in TV.

Many people like to look at train wrecks. Actually there is benefit from doing so because of the negatives people who view them make attempts to stress the positives in their lives and avoid making the same mistakes. and has a number of posters have said there is always an off/on switch. The problem as i see it is far too many news organizations published based on their ideology. If only they all would just tell it all like it is and then let us decide. |
Let's all get together and start our own newspaper. We can call it the Villages Happy Times.
