George Gangerni, the man who danced on the square at Spanish Springs

I saw George Gangemi this morning on my way to work. He is the gentleman who use to dance every night at Spanish Springs Town Square. I loved to watch him work the crowd. He always made me and many others smile. I happened to have my camera with me this morning and asked if I could take a photo. I explained as best as I could about TOTV and how people were asking about him. He was so happy to know people cared.

His nurse was walking with him and kept teasing him, saying he was a celebrity getting his photo taken. She helped him adjust his WWII veteran hat and straightened the collar on his shirt. I told him it always makes my day to see him. He said I made his day taking his picture to share with all of you.

He is losing his eyesight and hasn't been going with his nurse to the square on Mondays. She said he's going to be having surgery on his eyes to help his sight. Let's keep George in our prayers.

He is a delight! I have watched him dance at the squares and I believe he is in his 90's? He is an inspiration. Keep on going, George!:BigApplause:

I don't know this gentleman but it sounds like when you took his photo today you made the day for both of you and the many people who know him from the Square. Thank you for sharing!

Holding good thoughts for George. What a nice lady you are, Miz Cunningham :)

sandybill2 07-17-2014 06:48 AM

Oh how I love George-----thank you for posting his picture--I love seeing his smile. He even has fans in Virginia. My daughter-in-law danced with him during one of her visits--fell in love with him-and asks about him every time I talk to her. We are in Virginia now and I can't wait to show her his picture when she gets home for work. The Villages Daily Sun did a wonderful article on him a year or so ago. I saw him a few months ago in the Square--talked to him and told him how he was missed and that he was in my prayers nightly.

Taltarzac725 07-17-2014 07:01 AM

Thanks for posting that. I will also pray for him.

Vicki.baker@aol.com 07-17-2014 07:14 AM

Thanks for sharing, he was an inspiration at his age to watch. Best wishes with his upcoming surgery.

Bonny 07-17-2014 07:28 AM

Will keep George in my thoughts and prayers. He's such a nice guy !

RErmer 07-17-2014 07:32 AM

So good that you took this picture and shared. I, like others, missed seeing him on the square & will hope his health improves.

It always made me smile to see George dancing around the square engaging the crowd.

I'd like to thank him for his service to our country, thank him for making me smile and wish him a speedy recovery so that he can be back on the square doing what he loves.

Praying for George, he is a terrific guy whom I have talked with several times. Missed him at the square this year.

Abby10 07-17-2014 09:17 AM

Have not had the privilege of meeting him or seeing him dance, but what a pleasure to pray for someone who has brought so much joy to others. Hope all goes well for him and that he will be back on the squares and putting smiles on other's faces in no time. Thanks for sharing.

gerryann 07-17-2014 09:27 AM

Always loved watching him dance. He's an inspiration. Thanks for posting the update. Prayers for him for a speedy recovery and a continued happy life.

casita37 07-17-2014 09:32 AM

I watched him dance with a lady in a wheelchair once. I don't know if she was his wife or a friend, but when it was time to leave the square, he pushed her wheelchair. I don't really know what it was about that scene that touched me, but it did. I started to ask if I could take their picture, but decided it looked too much like a private moment.

Wishing him well!!

George Bieniaszek 07-17-2014 09:54 AM

Sending happy thoughts and hoping for a speedy recovery George!!

Thank you for your service to our country!!!!!

For George: ~ An Old Celtic Blessing ~
May the blessing of light be on you—
light without and light within.
May the blessed sunlight shine on you
and warm your heart
till it glows like a great peat fire. :beer3: (Guiness of course)

90-year-old Villager dances the night away with his love - The Villages Daily Sun: Villages

tainsley 07-17-2014 02:05 PM

Thanks for the link! A great article. Love to see Mr. Gangemi dance around the square. I will keep him in my prayers!

44Ruger 07-17-2014 02:12 PM

Many years of seeing him there. What a strong spirit and gentleman. All my wishes and respect George.

Villages PL 07-17-2014 02:40 PM

Thanks for posting a link with a picture. It's not who I first thought it was. There was a man who, years ago, would dance by himself, free style, all around the gazebo at Spanish Springs Town Square. He was very graceful and expressive. I always wondered what happened to him. Does anyone remember that man?

There's a lesson to be learned here: Men, if you want to be remembered and prayed for when you get old, you better learn how to dance!

bkcunningham1 07-17-2014 02:50 PM

I just read the comments. The love and thoughtfulness of your words and thoughts has me tearing up and has put a lump in my throat. I know that I have to print them out and take them by and read them to George. You are all sincerely the best of humanity. Thank you. I know George will love your kindness.

bwint7 07-17-2014 02:51 PM

I have seen George dance several times and always enjoyed him. He looked so happy when he danced that he made me feel happy just watching him. I hope he has a speedy recovery period. Prayers and best wishes to you, George!

George is a really nice man. Here's a picture of him dancing with Gary Senator of 3 For The Road. It's from August of 2013.

Is anyone else having trouble opening this link? I'm getting a Temporary Error 404 message when I try.

God bless George. I want to grow to be just like him!
