White Castle sliders...just talking about those they other day. We had pizza!

CFrance 07-21-2014 08:19 PM

Yellow tail snapper and yellow rice, small caesar. Hubs had chicken picata and yellow rice, small caesar. We ate out (in the Keys) and have enough for two more dinners. 3/4 bottle of Tuscan red.

Now I can't move. I'm going to have to crawl outside with the dog for his last whiz.

Dreamer61 07-21-2014 08:57 PM

Grilled portobello, asparagus, and garden salad! It 'twas yummy!

Halibut 07-22-2014 02:55 AM

Wal-Mart's Marketside bagged chopped salad kit, Southwest or Asian/sesame. They're lunch or dinner for us 2-3 times a week, so are likely to be coming up in the rotation today. I throw some fresh pico de gallo in the Southwest and peanuts on the sesame. Woot! Look at me, I'm cooking!

2BNTV 07-22-2014 04:19 AM

Lean cuisine, (salmon with basil rice), dinner, with a pear for dessert.

Trying to hold my weight down.

A splurge for sure

A splurge for sure..........

Since it's going to be in the mid to high 80's today, the dog days of mid summer according to our weatherman, I thought I'd treat hubby to some great city foods from ZABAR'S NEW YORK CITY DELICATESSEN.....

ZABAR'S overnight it, shipping yesterday afternoon to arrive by 10 a.m. today; always arrives COLD in an insulated refrigerated bag....fresh as if it were just sliced.

Reuben Two =
Pastrami & Corned Beef *Swiss Cheese * Rye Bread * Deli Mustard * Russian Dressing * Potato Salad * Cole Slaw * Half Sour Pickles
Plus I added: Extra cole slaw * Chopped Chicken Liver (pate) * Cinnamon Rugelach

"""Some deli denizens like their Reubens with corned beef, others with pastrami. Please them all with this direct-from-the-deli crate, packed sky-high (like a true Rueben sandwich) with all the fixing's for a fabulous feast: 1/2lb Corned beef, 1/2lb Pastrami, 1/2lb Swiss cheese, Zabar's rye bread, Zabar's deli mustard, Russian dressing, Potato salad, Half-sour pickles, Cole slaw. """

http://www.zabars.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Zabars-Site/default/Link-Product?pid=C1100P9

They also have the best toasting bagles & home made cream cheese.......a zillion times better than our supermarket bagles which are rubbery. We keep a large supply of Zabar's bagles, of all varieties, in our freezer.....after hubby slices them on the Zabar's "guillotine".....a neat invention. They also have the best smoked Scottish Nova Salmon (prepackaged) which we recently had for the very first time about a month ago.....on a bagle with a "schemear" of their home made cream cheese" The salmon is not fishy......but delicate smoky flavor.....excellent. The cream cheese divlne.

http://www.zabars.com/schemear-and-more/

Anyway, I'm always cooking.........so a few days of cold deli won't kill us.........it's good for the psyche & for the soul.........a diversion from always trying to eat healthily. Cheaper than driving down the 3 or 4 hours to N.Y.C.

Mujadra. It's a middle eastern dish that consists of carmelized onions, rice, and lentils. Seasoned with cumin, salt and pepper.

jblum315 07-22-2014 06:57 AM

I can buy delicious bagels and prepackaged smoked salmon at Brooklyn Bagels and all the rest (pastrami, corned beef, pickles, rye bread etc) at Toojay's for a heck of a lot less than $150, but I guess if you live in Vermont it's not so easy.

It's impossible. Thus, the splurge.

Now, we are spoiled.

P.S. They give you a DISCOUNT each order towards the next order........I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT.

I looooooooooove mujadra. We used to get that for lunch when I was working. We had a salad with it, which had sumac in the dressing and fried or baked flatbread on top. I've made mujadra and the salad at home. What is the salad called?

I like TooJay's vegetarian ruben. And a true ruben has to have sauerkraut.

I did love Zabar's when we were living an hour out of NYC. It was a must stop when we would go into the city for the day. But I've never mail-ordered any of their stuff. I bought all my French copper pots there at half price. They don't sell them anymore.

Happinow 07-22-2014 08:00 AM

Yum yum

Baked teriyaki pineapple salmon with brown rice, corn on the cob, asparagus, and a spring mix salad.

This sounds wonderful! I thought I might add that there is a place "up North" called Oscar's Smoke House. It is in Warrensburg, NY. They smoke their own meats and they are delish! They also have a variety of cheeses, cheese spreads, jerkys and much more. This is the place where Rachael Ray orders her gift baskets for Christmas. We particularly like their petite hams. They are all very reasonably priced and they will ship. If they ship on Monday, then your order will come on Thursday or Friday. However, during the summer they don't ship to Florida due to the high temps. The food doesn't stay cold long enough in transit. If you look it up Oscar's Smoke House on google you can look at their products. Oh, I forgot to mention that they have this mustard called "More Than Mustard". It's addicting!

DigitalGranny 07-22-2014 10:52 AM

Leftover roasted lamb with wine sauce, rice pilaf, fresh grilled zucchini and summer squash.

rosygail 07-22-2014 11:14 AM

Fried chicken, home made biscuits, rice and gravy, salad, ice cream!

Halibut 07-22-2014 11:26 AM

Rice and gravy? Is that a thing? :)

senior citizen 07-22-2014 02:46 PM

Thanks for the info
