Clever idea
 

I just installed a new modem from Comcast with the built in wireless router. I got it installed and than figured out that the wireless code was on the back. There was not a lot of light where I had it installed so I used my iphone flashlight app to try and read the passcode. I think the print was in 2 pt font. Even with glasses and light I couldn't read those pesky small letters and numbers. Didn't have the best angle, but years ago it would have not been a problem.

Having the iphone still in my hand, the light bulb (in my head) finally went on. I took a picture of it, and than just expanded the picture and could read it fine. Can't wait for that next medicine bottle where the fine print is designed to be never read. Or some dim restaurant where I can't read the menu. Or somewhere I need glasses but left them home. Just snap a picture and expand the print. Problem solved.

Now why didn't you think of that two months ago when I was going nuts trying to read the numbers? (Good ole Swiss Army knife magnifying glass saved me but your way much easier.) thanks!!

That is a default number. Best to change it to something easier to remember.

I've used the phone camera to take a picture of something I iwanted at a store. It was an item I hadn't bought before and i wanted to remember what the package looked like. I've also took pictures of book covers, business cards and contact information for later use.

On trips, I take pictures of signage. I take a picture of the sign and then the pictures I really want to take. These pictures are usually taken with a camera but it would also work with the phone.

I can tell from reading your posts over the years that you are one smart guy, but this is, as another poster said - Genius!! You have certainly solved a lot of my problems with this idea. Thanks, l2ridehd!!

I always take a I-phone pic of the back of the TV, box etc, so I can remember where all the wire go when I put them back..

I never stop agreeing with you or admiring you. You are one of the most sensible people I have ever met.

Another great use for your phone. If you ever need a mirror and don't have one, just turn on the camera and use the back facing lens to see yourself on the screen. Kinda like taking a "selfie", but just don't take the picture. It is unless you want to.

There is also an app to help you find your car, when you are in unfamiliar territory. When you park, you just mark your location with the app and then when you go to find your car, the app will lead you righ to it.

This is how my students take notes on many occasions. (I know many will object to this, but it is the reality of today)

They also have magnifying apps that work very well.

Great idea! We have one of those new modems (supposedly) coming in the mail. I will remember that.

Another thing I've used the phone camera for is snapping pictures of recipes that I read in magazines in waiting rooms (doctor, auto, etc.). Or taking pics of flower decorations or other ideas in magazines.

When phones with cameras first came out, I thought, Who would use that? Famous last words!

We often take pictures of things far away that we cannot make out....zoom all the way, take the shot, then enlarge it again....We also take pictures of flyers or signs for concerts, yard sales, events, etc. and we can refer to them later.

WOW, what a great bunch of folks. My clever idea has now multiplied many times over. Great suggestions everyone. I will share more when I have my next bright idea. It actually happens every once in a while.

If we are painting and run out of paint, I take a picture of the formula rather than haul in the empty paint bucket.

When we were looking at homes, we took a picture of the a/c unit to verify its age when I got home.

So many uses.

When we were furniture shopping pic of price and description first, than pic of item. Then we new what was what.

I had a friend who got a puppy. Every week they took a picture of it in the same basket, till it reached 80 lbs and had to hold the basket in its mouth!

I had a dermatologist who wanted to really get a good look at something. He pulled out his phone, took a picture and enlarged the picture. This was several years ago and I though how ingenious it was! He had the great idea, too bad he wasn't the greatest doctor. LOL

Recently when I required a converter to get my MacBook Pro to connect to a larger monitor when I need to read really fine print I took photos of the various connectors and went to the computer store. Bingo! I came home with just the right item.

It is an easy name but the password is the kicker. I have had two Comcast modems and both the name and password are different. I do not think the name means a thing. It is the password that is the important thing if you have WiFi PCs attached.

I usually write the network name and password down before I install the modem. It is much easier to read when it is in your hand.

For better security, you can go into the modem after you install it and block the broadcast of the SSCPID. That way no one in the receiving area knows you are there.

Unfortunately if you block the SSCPID, your Kindle cannot find the network.
