Yes, and the Sinai peninsula is filled with oil fields. Occupied since the Arab Israeli war in 1967 and then ceded back in 1979. This was for peace in the region. It is clear there will be no permanent peace as the Palestinians, and in particular Hamas, have no interest in sharing Israel with Israelis.

Yes, just like other countries can be wrong. But not in this case. What other country would be expected to sit by and do nothing while rockets rain down upon them. Certainly no other country would be expected to put up with the tunnels that have been dug with the sole purpose df conducting terrorist attacks. Hamas, an organization that is recognized as a terrorist organization and whose stated policy is the destruction of Jews, fires rockets intentionally at Israeli civilian populations and fires them from schools and mosques and civilian areas. When Israel retaliates the world seems shocked that civilians have been involved in the casualties. Maybe Israel should meet Hamas halfway, and only let them destroy half of the Israeli population! As a former Prime Minister of Israel, Golda Maier once said, we can forgive you for killing our children, but we cannot forgive you for forcing us to kill your children.

As Gracie just said, that is one of the clearest explanations that I've heard about the current mess involving Israel. WAY too many people are blaming Israel and ignoring the truth. Only those who are ignoring the truth can continue to be critical of Israel and that includes those at the very highest levels within this current demented government of ours.

It appears that in this thread that it is wrong to express sympathy for the INNOCENT Palestinians that are being killed in this conflict. Five years old do not terrorize Israelis.

I don't think anyone expressed lack of empathy for the civilians and children being killed. I think the thread was about Israel being blamed for defending themselves. War is crap...it just is.

As for what is going on now with Hadar Goldin...I am wondering if this is legitimate. I just heard he is "dead" but no one is saying how or where. I am wondering if he really is or if that is what Israel is saying because they have no idea where he is so they are trying to get Hamas to admit to having him to keep Israel from bombing a location where he might be being kept?

If, in fact, he is dead, it helps Israel because it eliminates a bargaining chip..how awful to think of a person as a bargaining chip. Last soldier who was alive was traded for over a thousand Palestinian soldiers.

Like I said, war is just crap. There are so few winners...and they are never the civilians.

I saw a wonderfully simple comment. If the Palestinians said they would fight no more and laid down their weapons, there would be peace. If the Israelis said they would fight no more and laid their weapons down, they would be annihilated. I think this is true.

REALLY? I just now was listening to CNN and they said nothing of this - only that he was dead with no detail of how or where.. how odd.

Everyone has the right to defend themselves and I am sure in some cases, innocent people are in the area where rockets are being fired. In some cases, just like the USA in Iraq and Pakistan, some areas are being targeted by mistake. However, as Mr C said, he could have taken out Bin Laden back in 2001, however, 300 innocent people would have died and he would have been as bad as he was.

"Shock and Awe" didn't work. Lets make another big mistake.

it would appear that Hamas DID kidnap him and, wherever they were holding him, he was killed in a bombing.

One of the issues here is that some people lump all of the Palestinians into one group. From what I can gather most Palestinians would prefer peace and a two state solution. I think that Israel will give them that. The problem is that small groups of extremists will not stop until Israel is wiped off the face of the earth. Unfortunately all of the Palestinians and Israelis suffer because of these extremist groups.

Until they have the body, which of course will cost them and which of course they will wait for years to get back, they should take nothing for granted.

Well said. The majority of non-extremist Palestinians would agree to a homeland and peace. This has been on the table for many years but has been hijacked by hatred by those who do not and will not recognize Israel's right to exist.

Have you noticed that the so called liberal intelligentsia here supports the the usual anti-jewish European nations. and in throwing their support to European zealots are they setting stage for another call for elimination of the jewish problem?

Personally I refuse to watch any of the alphabetical news stations because of their very liberal bias , not because they are liberal but because they intentionally withhold full reporting. for instance they do not report the number of Jews who are being killed in this war.

The only fault I find with Israel is that they are holding back, such as door knocking before they begin to bomb, and its all because they want people to know that this war is not their choice. But some people who know better let their emotional feelings interfere with logical thinking.

I see this quite differently nitehawk. You make it sound like the Israelis are trying to kill innocent civilians which is farthest from the truth. Why do you think they are dropping leaflets in advance of a bombing with the hope that all innocents could remove themselves from the targeted site? However, Hamas will continue to use human shields as long as they achieve their objectives. In essence, Hamas is killing their own and they are just fine with that.

There is no moral equivalency between the holocaust and the tragic killing of innocent Palestinians. When should they "forget" the holocaust ever happened?

Quite a few years ago I was flying to Europe on business and sitting next to me was a young Israeli, probably around 30. He was a South African dealer in leather and had served his time in the Israeli army. During our conversation I asked him if he could see a time when Israel and Palestine would get toether. He said no and in fact he would kill any Palestinan that he could. This was a real wake up call as to how difficult it is to bring the two groups together. I do not mean to pass judgement on either side but only to indicate deep rooted anger and this was with a very young Israeli. I do understand the diffculty that Israel has in being constantly shelled and having tunnels built to allow terrorists to come into their country and kill and kidnap innocent people. I am sure we would be outraged and hopefully be as strong and dedicated as they are! :sigh:

I visited the Good Fence, on the Lebanese border, where the Israelis brought Lebanese Injured in battles Israel had with the PLO. Similar to the situation in Gaza, PLO entered Lebanon and fired on Israel from Lebanon.

Hamas is from what I know more terrorist extreme, hardline, and nonnegotiable than the PLO, use the same tactics is PLO in taking over Gaza and subjecting Palestinians, who support them and who do not, to this aggression and counter aggression.

It's hard to "get along" when one side will only rest when every last Israeli is killed or driven into the sea. Not much negotiating room there, wouldn't you agree?

Good point ... that was indeed the wrong move. At least with Benjamin N., Israel has a strong leader who will not succumb to media nor political pressure, and all the while get the job done ... tunnel by tunnel.

As an Israeli, I'm proud to say that no other army in the world does what the IDF does before bombing. The Palestinians get a phone call, a text, a warning bomb (only loud noise) and only then the real bomb. Hamas uses the Palestians homes, schools, hospitals to shoot their rockets. All the money and the cement (cement donated by Israel to rebuild) was used to build these tunnels that Hamas was using and was planning on using for major attacks on Israel. I am proud to fly the Israeli flag at my house. I pray that my family and friends will be safe and survive this war that comes around every few years.
