Golf Channel special on TV Golf, Aug. 11, 9 pm

Set your DVR recorder for Monday, Aug. 11, 9:00 pm ET, the Golf Channel (on Brighthouse, that's Channel 1154). The others, I'm not sure what spot on the dial.

The Golf Channel has a special at that time about "Golf at The Villages." Should be fun to watch. Not sure how long the show.

Be sure to tell your family and friends elsewhere, so they too can enjoy the show...and get a better feeling about what makes The Villages so popular.

This may have been shown before; I'm not sure. Tune in, and smile.

The info was also posted in the online news "paper". Wonder what they will show - A friend who is a starter told me there were almost 3 million rounds of golf in TV last year (championship & exec). Amazing!

oot 08-11-2014 08:30 PM

I liked it, but the signal was cutting in and out during the segment (not sure if it is the weather up here in Michigan). Hopefully they will show it again and we can actually hear more of it.

njbchbum 08-11-2014 08:33 PM

6 million LOST golf balls? Yikes!

How do they know?

raynan 08-11-2014 08:43 PM

Saw my neighbor in the front seat of the dragon boats paddling her brains out.
We nicknamed her Paddlin' Madaline.

anarick 08-11-2014 08:45 PM

More golf carts in TV than taxi cabs in NY?
I don't think so.

kansasr 08-11-2014 08:55 PM

In 2012 there were 13,237 taxis in NYC....yes I'd say we have more golf carts!

thanks...I will check it out again...

PR1234 08-11-2014 09:26 PM

They said the average age was 62? Hubby and I don't buy that do you?

Happinow 08-11-2014 09:43 PM

Two thumbs up

It was well done and fun to see. It's hard to believe we live here!

That number represents yellow medallion licenses operating in NY however it doesn't include the over 40,000 'cars for hire' such as black cars, commuting vans etc.
Anyway, 50,000 golf carts is an amazing number of carts. Can't wait to add my cart to the mix next year.

teriquick 08-11-2014 09:52 PM

We watched it and loved it! We will be moving to the Villages from Omaha in 6 weeks and it made us even more excited to finally get there!

buggyone 08-11-2014 10:09 PM

I do not understand why there should be any mention of Blechman's book, Leisureville, on a segment about The Villages. He is just another hack who is jealous that he cannot move to The Villages. His book lacked all credibility.

Anyhow, the segment was good. I did see a quick glimpse of me and my wife in our golf cart. Do I get residuals whenever it is shown?

cattywampus 08-11-2014 11:15 PM

MIDNIGHT MONDAY on COMCAST

OK it is 00:01 Hrs on Tuesday aug 12

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 08-12-2014 06:20 AM

I missed it. I ended up watching the reports of Robin Williams death on CNN and FoxNews. I remembered about 9:30 so I switched over and by 9:50 I realized I was too late.

Just watched the program on my DVR and then went to The Villages website to find the prices on all homes are up 10%.(I am joking) The developer just got a 10 minute ad on national TV for free.TV ads have been on the Golf Channel for many years and that is how I found TV.
The program was very positive about The Villages and I am sure many people will be during research on TV.

Baltimore Guy 08-12-2014 07:26 AM

The show is on again today Aug,12 at 11.00 AM and 4.00 PM, on the golf channel.

I suspect that in the interests of full reporting, they included him and his opinion. The show, in my opinion, did not push his side, they included it and cut away moving on with very positive comments. I am glad that I recorded the segment (thanks to the OP for the heads up!) and will hit the repeat button quite a bit until we are living full time "in the bubble".

Congrats to you and your wife on your "air time"!

pooh 08-12-2014 07:40 AM

Here's the segment if you didn't get a chance to watch....(there's a commercial segment first.)

In Play: The Villages Golf Retirement Community | Golf Channel

alanmcdonald 08-12-2014 07:59 AM

I just can't believe the average age at 62 in TV. If (a) the supposedly minimum age is 55, (b) "most" people retire in their mid 60's, and (c) life expectancy continues to increase the numbers just don't add up.

2BNTV 08-12-2014 08:01 AM

Over 100 miles of golf cart path's was new to me.

I thought it was only 90. Still growing.

The best was the heading. "The Hippest Retirement Community".

I immediately put this link on my facebook page in answer to my friends back home who often say, "Now WHERE do you live in Florida?"

The only downer was Andrew Blechman. I am thinking about making a dart board with his picture on it.

I enjoyed the piece on Golf Channel, but disagree that the Blechman quote was in the interest of full reporting. I think it's more like lazy reporting. It seems that most articles I read about The Villages have at least one quote from this guy, which is the same chant over and over - the geezers don't want kids around and that's bad. On the plus side at least they didn't mention sex on the square.

According to wikipedia thats true.

Keep spreadin' the word. Maybe it will balance some of the negative publicity about us lately. Sinkholes, etc.

NO. I don't work for the developer. I just LOVE this place.

I thought that it was a great segment.http://www.golfchannel.com/media/play-villages-golf-retirement-community/

His picture should be on all the archery targets over in the historic side.

Gonna sell those dart boards at the squares, Gracie?

Chi-Town 08-12-2014 10:05 AM

I have had to field Leisureville and its related "issues" regularly over the last few years. It seems to be an urban legend now for some. I watched the Golf Channel's segment and saw it as an excellent sales presentation. And as in all good presentations you must address an objection even if it just to mention it to remove that sticking point in people's minds. If you don't, your message can be lost. I felt that the segment addressed it as much (or little) as needed and continued on with its positive message. Very well done.

People retire earlier than you think, and many Villagers still work.

I retired at 55 and am now 62, right in the middle.

mikeandnancy1112 08-12-2014 10:10 AM

We also thought it was a great segment. Now I am sure more people will move here, especially since it is noted to be the fastest growing retirement community in America!

simpkinp 08-12-2014 10:12 AM

Gracie, Thanks for the link. I forgot to tape it last night.
